Re: My 34 tried to kill me! It runs! (kinda...)

Chris, you got me beat with cold temps, but how much snow do you average a year. We get just shy of 200 inches a year. (avg is about 170-190). Yeah, for those of you who scoff, thats 16 feet of snow. You cant even walk out to set up targets in that kind of snow. Yeah, Syracuse sucks!

Re: My 34 tried to kill me! It runs! (kinda...)

I actually visited SARCO a few weeks ago. They are woefully low on all MG34 parts. Marstar? Screw dem mo 'friggies. Ive emailed them twice before about small parts and they dont even email me back. Brian is a great guy who took the time to talk to me a while back. Ill go with him. (after I try to dr...

Re: My 34 tried to kill me! It runs! (kinda...)

Trust me, heading to the range on a 10 degree day, with 3 feet of snow on the ground is no fun. Snotcicles really interfere with proper cheek weld.

So where can I get the 11mm booster cone?

My 34 tried to kill me! It runs! (kinda...)

With the help of Chris's extra long sear and plenty of dremel time, I managed to finally get the trigger to work. I really had to jimmy rig some stuff in this area, had to notch the recoil spring collar for sear clearance and such. I made my maiden trip to the range, heres the good, bad and the ugly...

Re: Any interest in longer sears/trip levers?

SWEET! My 34 is just sitting on a shelf because I got tired of dikin' with this sear issue. This will breath new life into the project.

Re: Any interest in longer sears/trip levers?

Id be really interested if the price is right. TNW wants 51 dollars for the sear. I need another one to fiddle with and I know it needs to be a bit longer. If you could make em a tad longer and cheaper, Id jump on it. How soon is this going to happen? Im itchin to get mine up and running and will pr...

Re: Cant beat this sear problem.

JFC! I spent the day making my 3rd sear. Got it all together and my trigger gate broke free. Spent hours putting that back in. NOW.....the sear isnt resetting. The firing pin will drop but when you cycle the weapon while holding the trigger, the bar catches the sear on the way home and trips it agai...

Re: Cant beat this sear problem.

Im at that frustration point. No matter what I do with this trigger /sear setup, there is always another problem. The issues here is the TNW design.....it sucks. (Now, not to be one to bash, I for one could not come up with a better design.) Its one thing after another, and Im starting to file/grind...

Cant beat this sear problem.

SO I made another sear....it tripped the pin....hoooray! Went to cock the weapon and the trigger bar was getting jammed on the bottom of the bolt carrier. So instead of the radius cut, I made a nice long slope on the back of the carrier. Gave it a more gentle slope to ride on. Cocked the weapon, bol...

Re: Trigger bar not pushing sear? Suggestions?

Ill be making mine today. What really stinks is I cant find any .200 bar stock so I loose an evening milling down 1/4 steel key stock on my drill press! How short was your sear? Mine was only a few thous off. A beer can shim was enough for testing!

Re: Trigger bar not pushing sear? Suggestions?

ARGHHH!!!! My new sear worked but I found another problem. I went to test the semi auto function of the weapon....pull trigger, HOLD trigger, cycle gun and check for sear reset. The bolt wont even retract with the trigger being held. My new sear rests too low on the trigger gate and wont allow the b...

Re: Another one put together! Lets see if it works!

Ill be honest with you, Ill be surprised if this gun ever runs reliably. Im expecting issues. I really think the trigger sucks and the sear design is its weak point. Welding the receiver is only half the work. That bolt machining was a mo'fracker...But the fact that Ive done all this work, I have a ...

Re: Trigger bar not pushing sear? Suggestions?

I hardened my home made sear by heating it cherry red, oil bath and 400' oven for 20 mins. Still, I expect it to self destruct after a few hundred rounds. I cleared the carrier with the proper radius cuts. I think that .005 here and there eventually stacked up and made havoc with my sear.

Re: Another one put together! Lets see if it works!

No, trust me, this is one ugly gun......Like that old muscle car down the street. Half primer, half bondo, one new painted quarter panel and bald tires. Im sure it will make noise and occasionally run down the street but it will never be a daily driver. But its still an old muscle car and not some i...

Another one put together! Lets see if it works!

Well I got my little sear engagement problem fixed....I just made my own sear. Thats quite a feat with a dremel and a file...Anyways.....It all fits together, it all cycles, the sear drops and resets. I havnt tested feeding and ejection yet but the majority of the big work is done. This is one mixma...

Trigger bar not pushing sear? Suggestions?

I installed everything today and found that when the trigger bar pushes down on the sear, it just barely moves it. The sear depresses, but not enough to let the firing pin drop. It just needs an extra few thousandths to drop. IIRC, someone else here had this same problem and wound up making there ow...
