Lance?

Shoot me an email with your number and I'll give you a call -you helped me out with my 1919 builds when I was in OK and I'll be glad to return the favor!

Well..... ok. Personally, I like my guns to look like guns. I like the military derived ones to look military.... Building a sa Mg-42 from a torched parts kit and parts from other guns is a bitch. Its the hardest build Ive done. Much more involved than 1919's, ak's , ar's,or fal's. So when you get i...

I have to disagree with Ab, here. You can get a pretty good (close) finish match with the moly's. If its sand blasted pretty aggressively you'll have a duller finish. Also, with the satins and flat/matte's that are available and a little mixing you can get very close. I used a NOS blued wwII topcove...

I have if Im planning on shooting it again soon or dont have time to really clean well. I do wipe it down before reinstalling it and run a patch down the bore before shooting it. I have several PVC tubes that I use for several different things. I keep filled until the Ed's gets nasty looking then I ...

Make up a batch of Ed's Red (link - http://www.kuci.uci.edu/~dany/firearms/eds_red.html). Make up a Few PVC containers out of 2-3" PVC pipe. You can skip the lanolin. In any case this stuff works great for eating up baked on carbon. Just throw the booster/front end parts in the container and let the...

I came up with an mg-42 upper hand drawing, but it required basically removing the whole grip stick portion of the receiver from the lower edge of the rails down and then welding in a milled replacement that would allow for the AR to be attached and sit high enough. With all the Fal SA stuff and 2-p...

Im just wondering if a partially modifed FA bolt extension would pass your blocking bar and still allow the use of a slightly or less modified FA grip stick. IF this is the case, I'd do something different to avoid it. I understand what youve done. I understand your intent, but think like a criminal...

I think as long as welding meets osha specs its fine. Some times though 'standards' are minimiums - ie barely acceptable. Truthfully, I dont know what they are I just know my helmet exceeds 'em. the more expensive the helmet the lighter, more user friendly they generally are - like anything though u...

The cheaper your equipment the sooner it will fail. I too am often amazed when I see guys buy a 10K+ bike and then scour a store looking for the least expensive helmet. Protect those parts that are irreplaceable. Most of the less expensive helmets seem to work just fine. Just make sure you can take ...

Just one thought (I like your idea better than my fix). Will the rivit in anyway interact/hold the bolt back when it interacts with a MG unmodified grip stick? Just playing devils advocate. I had thought about only milling off part of tabs on the underside of a bolt extension when I did my build and...

First get the helmet - worth their weight in gold, especially when youre learning. TIG is probably the hardest type of welding to learn first - keep that in mind and be patient. Check your local votec - they may have a night class. That's what I did to learn it the right way. I could weld (or so I t...

The charging handle being loose was the problem - the replacement fixed it. I then changed out the spring in my original charging handle and the gun ran fine. Its still really weird to think that the charging handle was the problem even though the cases werent getting stuck on it but the front of th...

Its not the booster cup/extension. I tried my extended one and a WWII one. No difference in performance. I tried 3 different 308 top covers from NOS to used, from all german new parts to mismash - no diffence. I swapped bolt heads and all there parts - from new to used - zippo, no improvement. The e...

DRH, Looks too cool. I have to get the damn thing running again before I can get on to the spades. Blanks, This is the first SA 42 I built - right as Pirate was doing his. It used to run fine. Im using the correct 308 parts and the same ammo as before (I buy in LARGE amounts once or twice a year). I...

So far its a timing issue. I swapped buffers out stock vs. extended - no difference. If I use a smoother functioning bolt/ext, it happens less. I also smoothed my rails a bit and that helped. I think I brake down and clean it and see if that helps - it didnt seem to help Pirate but may be it will ha...

Brass, I do the same thing when welding pipe pieces back together for fence - funny how a rancher will spend 20 - 30 minutes welding 8" pieces of rusty pipe together rather than spend $8 on a new piece.. If you really want to get tricky, you can clamp four pieces of 'support rod' together totally en...
