Re: FG 42 late war photo

Early MG34's did indeed have a dual rate of fire switch located where shown in this photo. This was dropped quickly and the gun shown is probably updated with a plug replacing the original switch. Pretty common on early guns. JH

The 9.5 stamped cones are for use with the l.s. ammo (86 grain, aluminum core) not that common. JH

Re: Converting a 34 from full to semi auto.

The point that he is still getting FA fire with the blocked trigger bar, (which should not allow it), suggests the sear is not holding the bolt, causing FA fire to continue when the SA trigger is pulled. It is understood that he can only have SA. Some states in the USA will not allow selective fire ...

Re: Converting a 34 from full to semi auto.

If the FA trigger bar is secured and preventing FA fire, the most common problem would be a worn sear or worn searing surface on the bolt carrier. A bad sear spring could also release the bolt prematurely but the main sear is the most likely culprit IMO. JH

Re: 4th Position Stoppage

Some of the 1970's dated Romanian LPS is starting to show it's age in primer sensitivity. In proper condition, the primers should have ignited with the strikes shown. The primer cups are seated well onto the case anvil by the blow of the FP. They will probably fire if struck a second time. I have va...

Re: New update..

The fun continues.. I now cannot get the barrel back in due to the recouperator blocking it from being fully seated, its not even close to seating. I have tried removing everything at the muzzle, even removed the bolt and everything from the gun. Tried using a punch and a hammer to drive it back bu...

It is not the feed tray, it is the pawl insert in the feed block in the top cover. Make sure it is set up for left hand feed and matches your feed tray. JH

Re: MG34 Wont cycle

The correct booster cone size is 11mm (.445"). The booster is meant to be tightened completely. Also, a common cause for firing single shots only is the feed block insert installed for a right hand feed. Be sure it is correctly set up to feed the belt from the left. The gun was designed to allow fee...

Re: chrome lined barrels for mg42

MG42 WW2 German chromed bolt heads are available as well. They are very easy to distinguish from the standard bolt head. This example has a chromed firing pin as well JH http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/haak48/MG42chromebolthead002.jpg http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/haak48/MG42chro...

Here are pictures of three "cr" marked MG42 barrels. Muzzle face is also chromed. There are a number of 'cr" markings locations, but the barrel stub is the most common. Re: WW2 German CR barrels? Pricing?

Back to "Cr", barrels (hard chromed bore & chamber). I have bought them at the going price for a standard barrel when the seller did not care about the difference and priced all his barrels the same. I am not a barrel collector but rather a shooter and the service life of these barrels is claimed by...

Re: German 8mm MG42 Barrel

Looks like it could be a late war chromed barrel. I can't see the "Cr" on the barrel stub, but the face of the chamber looks to be chromed. If so, the barrel is not unreasonably priced. See picture attached. Barrel on the left is "Cr" marked. JH http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/haak48/MG42ch...

According to John Baum's translation on Inspection and Repair of the Infantry Devices (H. Dv. 181/7) the Recuperator spring length is 75.5mm for the 25 coil spring and 85mm for the 18 coil spring. MG34.com has springs. Bob Naess at Black River Militaria rebuilds the recuperator for $75.00. This inc...
