Re: Reproduction K98k Sniper Rifle

Darivs, You are 100% correct about the electropencil markings, they will be removed as soon as I get the time. I really hate them and I do use Swiss files to remove the markings and then clean with Blue Wonder, and use Blue Wonder bluing. Once that is done, I use the Scotchbrite pads to remove the u...

Re: Reproduction K98k Sniper Rifle

OK guys, I finally got the time to make some photos of the Zf39 K98k Sniper Repro from Cole Distributing. I am very pleased with how it looks after removing the Russian Shellac and adding the Sniper Safety I bought from IO. I did have to perform some minor grinding to get the Safety to work, but tha...

Re: Reproduction K98k Sniper Rifle

Well guys, I have not forgotten about this thread, but I have been out of town and have a million things to do the 2 days I am home each week! But, I have worked on the rifle and hope to have it ready to photograph this weekend. The stock is done and a few more hours and it will be ready. I hope the...

Re: Reproduction K98k Sniper Rifle

Darivs, Thanks for the information! The Shellac should be easy to remove and the info on removing the dark stains around the buttstock is a real help. I will use acetone and the hairdryer to remove most of this. You are right about cutting the stock for a cupped buttplate; I decided last night not t...

Re: Reproduction K98k Sniper Rifle

Well guys, I have been around, and checked the forum weekly, but not shooting or building anything, I figured I didn't have much to contribute. Work has has been "all consuming" the past 6 months and when I get home on the weekend, I crash. Earlier last year, I was in Washington State with...

Hello All, It has been a while since I posted, but I am still here. I try to read the Forum when I get a chance, but most of you are far ahead of me in building since I have had my MG42 for about 5 years now. Anyway, contact John Baum as "MGMike" stated! John has translations of everything...

Sling

The British website Sling is the Post War Yugoslavian Sling that was discussed earlier. It is a good sling for carrying the gun, but definetly post war. The 25 lb. is about $55 US and you can buy from AA cheaper.

The Sling being sold by Alleghey Arsenal is a post war Yugoslavain Sling and looks like a long rifle sling with the leather being wider. If you just want a sling, it is great, but looks nothing like the original. The only good part of the Yugo sling is the spring loaded clip that attaches to the MG4...

MGMike, I am out of town and can't look at mine, but if my poor memory serves me correct, the hex wrench is for adjusting the Optics Mount on the Tripod. If you look, there are several socket head cap screws that allow some adjustment to the scope mount. One of John's books has the information on ho...

Although it does not talk much about the MG42, most of the information on the rifle sprobably holds true for the MG42.

Yugo Soldier Info

Guys, while looking at the Yugoslavian Mauser Forum this morning, I ran across a "Sticky" with comments from a Yugoslavian Soldier and his comments about weaponry during his miltary career. He did carry the Yugo MG42 and mentioned it several times. Although the posting concerns Bolt Action...

Traffic

I am really glad to see the increase in traffic on the site! The MG 42 is, in my opinion, the best machine gun that has been invented. The increased traffic probably has to do with the availability of the Yugo kits at decent prices and the very soon available recievers for builing a legal SA gun. I ...
