You say that as if you don't already think that of all japanese production of type98's or type 1's??? Just testing your reaction time.....impact to detonation......you pass. ;-) I only know of ONE type 1(army) that has a 1944 date, all others are 1945 dated, regardless of how close the serial numbe...

Re: Japanese Type 1 (Type 98/MG-15 clone) reactivated
That Type 1/II is pretty close to my serial number......interesting. Would seem to indicate the change to the front jacket cooling holes vs, slots occurred over a small serial number range.....Also, I am starting to believe that ALL Yokosuka Type 1's retained the wooden rear receiver cover over the ...

Re: Different style of ww2 bolt carrier?
Two thoughts come to mind......
One. It may have been a field repair to stop the propogation of an incipient crack, by drilling a stress relief hole at the crack.
Two, it may have been an expedient relief hole to vent or drain water if the gun had been used in a particularly wet environment.

The mark is one used by Pyrkal/EBO, aka Hellenic Arsenals, the Greek combine that made the MG3 under license.

Re: Japanese Type 1 (Type 98/MG-15 clone) reactivated
Type 89 was made as a single, and a twin, and there were two types of 89s, but they are a unique Japanese MGs, neither type made by any other country. One type takes a 1/3 of a circle shaped drum and the other uses a drum much like the Vickers AFV LMG, similar to the Lewis drum. Bob So then.....how...

Re: Replacement booster cones
No, this has not happened....yet. Due to recent workloads picking up dramtically, it had to take a back seat to other work. I still am planning on doing it, I feel there is enough interest here to warrant a short run of each type, it's just going to be hard to get it fit into the planning for awhile...

Re: Tank ID Help request?
All the M4 series, and the earlier M3 series from which they were based on, share a common final drive arrangement, i.e, a forward mounted transmission and the front drive sprocket arrangement. Your model there is, essentially, about as close as you can reasonably expect to come from a generic model...

Re: Tank ID Help request?
Okay....been away for awhile. It is not an early A1; the tell-tale characteristic of the early A1 was the installation of two, fixed firing M1919A5 guns(fixed as in bolted in place in both azimuth and elevation, i.e, no way of moving the gun to aim save moving the hull), to the left(center hull) of ...

Re: Japanese Type 1 (Type 98/MG-15 clone) reactivated
Oh yeah, Seth, I've always believed they had imported some certain quantities of actual MG15 long before any indigenous production of Type 1/Type 98 guns was ever attempted. For one, it seems almost all Type 1/Type 98 production took place well into the second half of the War, and there certainly ex...
