Gunny and the '42

Folks:

If I interpret the 'previews" correctly....it looks like "Gunny" is going to be playing with an MG42,MG3 or M53 this Friday on "Mail Call" on the Histerical Channel. Whichever it is, he's firing it off the MG3 Lafette. Looks like he'll be shooting body armor with a MP5 too.

From the front of the Lafette block which is on the bottom of the barrel jacket under the rear sight, to the rear side (not centerline) of the rear mounting pin behind the grip (grip removed to measure perfectly straight) = 16 and 1/32" on my original never cut, never welded receiver. Thank you Joh...

Measuring anything from a reweld may not be a valid dimension anyway. A little short there, a little long here.... it may all total up right, but what's in the middle needs to be right too. I agree. The most important part of the "middle" seems to me to be the tripod mount dimensions,i.e. the dimen...

[quote="nutsrusted"]Now I'm curious. I'm wondering how bind keyways were done back before EDM. Maybe WiseLite can comment. (quote) Nuts: Depending on how big they were..they were done with either a slotter or a shaper, for one. On high production runs, they would probably make a broach, or series of...

AKman: Here is a thread in the MG42 stickies section http://panzer46.net/mg42board/viewtopic.php?t=2919 In a couple different places the dimensions are shown, but the short answer is: 382mm from the back edge of the receiver to the back edge of the cam-piece cut-out. The cut-out is 32.75mm long, whi...

I've got one of those....along with the SS man that goes with it. It is a really well done model, the cartridges will come out of the belt and all :)

Right now, the whole thing is downtown in the High School Library in a display. My wife is the Librarian ;)

do the keyways need to be blind?wont the guide bushing&nozzle bottom out on booster anyway? Kman: The nozzle will bottom out OK, but there is not as much gas seal around the barrel bushing anymore. The question is...how much gas is going to leak back into the shroud  Somehow, I don't think t...

Maybe I'll use that plum/purple I've got on my brother's old, rusty '97 pump with the saw-cut "riot" barrel :)

Re: MGMIKE! DO NOT USE GUNBLUE!

MGMIKE, duracoat 'gunblue' is a purple color that was designed to match old fashioned blue of yesteryear. It looks like crap. I did an AK47 in 'gunblue' and almost crapped my pants when the thing came out plum. Avoid it at all costs. Stick with 'HK black' or 'black oxide.' Good luck. Thanks Scott. ...

Nice work, Waffen.

Let us see how the Duracoat works out. I'm planning on using their "Gun Blue" for mine.

I got a question about the front end of the M53 shroud. So..I lined up a couple of them. The question was "how do the shapes compare to the MG42's?" Well...I don't know, I haven't seen a real-live MG42 since the Imperial War Museum in 1969. They look pretty much the same to me 8) But here's the pic....

Hi Chris: The left hand rail has a thinner bottom "leg". The purpose is to clear the recuperator tube...though it doesn't clear by much ;) You can tell the difference if you put them side-by-side. Three legs will be the same thickness, and one will be thinner. Here's a photo of the back end of a set...

Hi Pirate:

To print to size on everybody's printers, it needs to be a .pdf file. If your drafting program will "output" .pdf's then you can do it. If not....I can have a try with my program. Send me a .dxf or .dwg file and I'll see what I can do.
