Really cool! I've got one of the tube bipods too, but I think I have the cast one; really heavy. Interesting that they made that stamped one!
Can you weigh each and tell us?

Re: I bought two Sleds! One has battle damage!
From the lettering, I'd say it's from the 2nd war, the similar type items I've seen from WWI were not that type of stencil.IMBLITZVT wrote:You like them Mark? I told you, they were just nice enough had to keep both!
Anyone know anything about the regimental marking on the foot locker?

Re: 3,000 meter indirect fire exercise,,, talk and interest
This sounds totally fun, I'd love to do something like this with my MG34 and MG08! How about we increase our odds and fun by just having a MG42.us MG shoot and get together? I should think that we'd want to have a good range, where we could do this exercise: a fun place to shoot for all else as well...

Re: Optical Sight For MG08 - Maschinengewehr 08 + MG34 AA Si
Very interesting discussion here, I had thought the same thing as Matt, that this base was to attach the ZF12 sight to the MG34 lafitte, but apparently it's not, as Matt's already measured it. How very weird, I've no doubt it's a military mod, but for what??? Perhaps to upgrade the ZF12 with an 08 w...

Re: WTK: Lock Problem
Did you get a copy of the Devils Paintbrush with the troubleshooting section in the back? What you are describing sounds like the 3rd position stoppage, which can be for a variety of reasons. One is not enough tension in the recoil spring, another is crossfed cartridges in the feedblock, another can...

Re: Odd dwm barrel
I'd love to see some pictures too. Is it military proofed, or DWM only? Argentina had a number of Maxims, many of which were imported to here 50 years ago. Are you sure it isn't a barrel for one of them? I'd love to see more on this! Technically, I cant think of any reason it would chamber one 7.92 ...

Very cool pic! Love shooting my 08, it's always the shooter's favorite.
Looks like a good time was had by all judging by all the brass on the floor!

Re: MG08 Water Can.
On my watercans, I had to look at the ends; the center held no markings after I'd cleaned off the paint, the markings were all on the ends of the cans, as I recall. I've got both a wartime and a interwar model. My interwar can has a brass cap like that, with the chain; my wartime can does not, it ju...

Stegger, that's really interesting! What a crazy world, where destroying easily removable parts counts as deactivation... but I like it!!!
Now the barrel holes remind me of the silly stuff they do to barrels in Germany. Did Lithuania pick up German law on stuff like that?

Re: Picked up another mg08
That's a great looking 08!! Very nice! I vote for the waterjacket paint being original. The color looks good, so far as I can tell from the computer, and it appears to me that they were painted at the factory. They were usually repainted as they needed it, as far as I can tell, and the camo jobs wou...

Re: weapon discharged at gun show
What I cant figure out is how the seller had a gun on his table that was loaded, and not safety tied- why would you even put a gun out to sell loaded? I can't stand the fools who think you have to pull the trigger too. The first thing I do when picking up any gun is to check to see if it's loaded, e...

Re: chest armor
The poster referencing the stock and hooks is correct, except I think the hooks are more for the belt itself, like the hooks on the German army's tunic, or for the loops (D-rings) on the back of the standard M1909 cartridge pouches, so the armor more practical to wear. The stock support is definatel...

Re: Trench Mount Question
Ok I have had enough now of pretending - David will you marry me? Matts points about accessories to the USA is sound. After the short (but decisive) entry into WWI the US took far more MGs back to the USA than I suspect all the other countries put together. To own a MG08 or MG08/15 in Germany today...

Re: Trench Mount Question
David, I'm speechless. You really must have everything that was ever made by the Germans in WWI for the MG08, or at least a pretty good run at it! I'm very, very impressed!!! You have the neatest things! Not just one box, or a picture of one, for the MG08 "Trench" mount... but 4?? Of the wooden boxe...
