From the lettering, I'd say it's from the 2nd war, the similar type items I've seen from WWI were not that type of stencil.

This sounds totally fun, I'd love to do something like this with my MG34 and MG08! How about we increase our odds and fun by just having a MG42.us MG shoot and get together? I should think that we'd want to have a good range, where we could do this exercise: a fun place to shoot for all else as well...

Did you get a copy of the Devils Paintbrush with the troubleshooting section in the back? What you are describing sounds like the 3rd position stoppage, which can be for a variety of reasons. One is not enough tension in the recoil spring, another is crossfed cartridges in the feedblock, another can...

I'd love to see some pictures too. Is it military proofed, or DWM only? Argentina had a number of Maxims, many of which were imported to here 50 years ago. Are you sure it isn't a barrel for one of them? I'd love to see more on this! Technically, I cant think of any reason it would chamber one 7.92 ...
