Re: I.D. MP34 Proofmark

Steyr Solothurn Waffen- SSW. The solothurn factory in Solothurn Switzerland built the gun as Bob noted and used their trademark on the topcover.

Re: Bombings

Thanks Rocker. We usually don't get to see this sort of thing because someone behind the scenes is deleting it before we have to. Its amazing what they'll put up there though and why they do it is a mystery. If you're not advertising politics, porn, drugs or financial help why put crap on a board yo...

You know, the spambots are starting to write more intelligibly and with greater relevance than a lot of human posters now days. Whats even more amazing is that they can spell.......wonder what it all means though....

Re: Gurttrommel Single Drum Question

It doesn't fit the topcover, it fits the feed tray. Some will work, some won't. It has to be a feed tray that has the ears with the rails for the drum. The same drums fit the 34 and 42 feed trays. You can find the book "MG34-MG42 The universal machinegun" by Folke Myrvang. Its probably the best and ...

Re: Reloading thoughts

On the other hand....buy an electrical device from dillon and see how good the customer service is when it craps out 1 year and 1 day after you buy it. The super sized tumbler worked great til it didn't. When I talked to them about it the guarantee was no longer lifetime and they wanted as much to r...

Re: MG08 Booster, what do I have

Look inside the piston. You will see a step inside. The larger diameter goes on the barrel first. The smaller diameter is the muzzle end. That step sits against the barrel just behind the threads. Normally the rear of the piston is rounded on the outside and the front is square. The piston is not no...

Re: MG08 Booster, what do I have

Thanks to you both for your input, I have a Vickers but have not had a chance to check against it. Sorry for the threaded piston confusion, the barrel on the 08 I have just acquired is threaded, i know the seller had two guns and I'm thinking the other booster was a re-pro and they may have been sw...

Re: MG08 Booster, what do I have

The adaptor is what will screw into the front of an MG 08 or 08/15, the the booster screws into that, it has good aging and is very well machined, so who knows! The barrel sleeve is not threaded inside and is not oversize so again! I'm note sure. What you're calling a barrel sleeve is a piston. The...

Re: Never seen this mount before

Looks like the AA tripod for the MG13 as noted. Many features of the first LMG adopted by the germans were carried on to the MG34. Things like the bipod, the mounting system for the bipod, and the general layout of the barrel jacket. This means that the 34 would fit the MG13 AA tripod and bipod thou...

Re: Original 2-Piece Blank Barrel & Egyptian Wood Tip Blanks

The egyptian blanks are not the same as the WWII or postwar german wood bullet blanks. They are really hot and may cause some problems. I set up my MG08/15 to run the normal red wood bullet blanks made in germany for their military and the gun ran great. I was about the same speed as the original am...

Re: 08 BFA

I think the MG15 barrel is smaller diameter but what does that have to do with the adapter???? The MG13 barrels are the same size as the MG08 for the most part and I have threaded a couple for guys so they could use the blank adapters on both the 08 and the 13.

Re: 08 BFA

It is quite possible that they are selling MG13 blank adapters which use a coarse left handed thread. The barrels were not threaded for the machinegun but when worn too badly to use for live ammo they would put a left hand thread on them and use them for blank fire. As for the 08 maxims the barrels ...

Re: 14.5mm ptrs

I don't mean to be condescending and I hope you don't take it that way. Just realize that you can blow your face off with a .223 and 24gr of powder. Remember that smokeless powder is based on nitro cellulose and nitro glycerine. There is a tremendous amount of energy contained in these powders. When...

Re: 14.5mm ptrs

The problem you will have is shown by your last statement. You don't understand what the issue is. Starting with an 8mm case load of powder could blow the gun up. Less is not always better in loading and when you have enough powder space to take 300 grains of powder you don't want to drop 40grains i...

Re: 14.5mm ptrs

im thinkin about reloading with a weak powder i tons of powder i use for shot shell and a light zinc bullet You might want to think that over again. The case capacity is huge....about 350gr of 5010 if I recall correctly. Simply putting a light zinc bullet in it won't allow you to use shotgun powder...

Re: 8mm head stamp ID

I suppose what you ought to do is look at what it would cost to buy the bullets you want from Hornady, Speer or Sierra. The 150gr turk bullets are quite short which makes them tougher to load and to find good loads for. If you can get heavier bullets for about the same price new then you're better o...

Re: 14.5mm ptrs

I owned a PTRS for some time and never fired it. Ammo is very very hard to find, there is no safe powder in the US to reload, projectiles can be made and primers can be adapted but with no powder its a moot point. The guns won't handle the newer KPV ammo safely and ammo is not legally importable. Th...

Re: 8mm head stamp ID

I've not seen any issues with bullet diameters. They are a bit short however which makes them tougher to load. The brass is not the issue with blowups as I've had customers with guns blown up from just about every year of production. All of them were not brittle brass problems. I've seen some powder...

Re: 8mm head stamp ID

That is indeed turk 8mm and I've had great luck with it ..... if you call it luck. It has brought me more work than any other single type of ammo out there though the indian .308 has come close. If you want to blow something up or destroy a gun that is the ammo to use. It is crap in semi's and machi...

Re: mg 13 in 308?

In the MG13 the whole barrel assembly moves backwards, cams a locking block downwards and releases the bolt from the barrel, or at least from the barrel extension. The accelerator you asked about speeds the bolt up to the rear in order to separate it from the barrel while allowing the barrel to retu...
