WTB: MG42 Buttstock

Post by an1913t »

I'm looking for a complete MG42 buttstock. I've had some issues with the internals on mine, and figure a spare could come in handy. I will also consider a full M53 buttstock and buffer (i've read you need the buffer as the stock thread pitch is different) or MG3. Let me know what you have.

Thanks.

If the stock you have is good, you can just replace the cup in the stock with one from a beater/broken stock.

Speaking of internals, on my M53, the locking mechanism that secures the butt stock to the buffer was REALLY tight, you couldn't just push the button by hand.

Anyhow, I managed to get it all apart and it turns out the metal tab that locks into the notch on the buffer, was a little too wide, so I took my honing stone to it until it moved freely.

Thanks. I finally got everything put back together. Mines tight just like you mention. The gun I bought came with an M53 stock but no guts in it. I now suspect that those are the guts in my MG42 stock and he didn't tighten them because they stuck just like you mention. I'll take another look and see what I can do.

I think the locking tab is hardened steel, so you'll probably have to use some kind of abrasive stone to make it fit, rather than a file. Just keep honing the sides of the locking tab until you get a nice fit.
