Is there a conversion or mounting block to convert the 42 Lafette to a 34 Lafette? Either the M3 or the earlier German Lafette.

because the mounting systems for the two guns are completely different, the only way to "convert" the lafette is to completely replace the cradle. So, in short, no, there is no conversion, unless you buy an entire cradle, disassemble the lafette, and replace the cradle.

The best mount for dual use would be the WW2 style AA tripod. You can use either, if you have both parts and only have to remove 2 bolts.

http://www.oldtimergarage.eu/store/prod ... ts_id=2698 and the mg42 adaptor.It is also the same part used on the Lafette AA extension and motorcycle MG mounts If it is one of the newer AA mounts some machining will be needed.

rgus48;..> Yeah there is a way to mount a 34 onto a 42 lafette, but you will have to permanently alter the trigger linkage with a dremel tool or file.
.......TNW has a $25.00 mounting block, that you screw onto the bottom rear of the barrel jacket, once you remove the two screws holding the spring clip. This steel little block will lock into the female mount in front on the lafette cradle...> The problem is the trigger linkage, it must be filed so it will fit around the trigger of the 34....but this will be a permanent alteration, and will work if you have no intention of ever mounting a 42 onto this lafette.
.....Here is a shot of a 34 on a post war 42 lafette, using the TNW mounting block;

Thanks so much for the info. I had seen that piece you are talking about but wasn't sure just what it did. I really don't want to modify my 42 Lafette, I would rather try and locate a 34 lafette or fire it off the AA mount or bypod before I tear up a perfectly good mount.

Until you decide what you want, the post war lafettes are cheap & available, in that case the TNW adaptor would give you the ability to get the gun onto the lafette, until you find the war-time one.

That is an excellant idea. Iwill order one of the M3 mounts still around and convert itspecifically for the MG34. Been looking for an excuse to do just that. Thanks

Allegheny has the upper rail section of an MG34 lafette, with the barrel flip-over mechanism. It's under "lafette parts" on their site, but won't let me copy the picture. It's not cheap, but I'm sure that you creative guys could mount it to a late-model lafette in no time. You might take a look at it....Phil
