7,92mm or 7,62mm belt?

Tripods, ammo cans, gunners kit, etc.

7,92mm or 7,62mm belt?

Post by 7,92lover »

I found this post war MG42 50-round belt and would to know if it's for 7,92mm or 7,62mm ammo? MG1 or MG3?
The links height is 36mm.
It has a "church" marking on the male connecting piece. Did you seen it before?
I enclose some pictures, also with a 7,92mm cartridge.

Looks like a german MG3 belt (7.62). All the german MG3 belts i have seen have a grey finish, various stamps on the connector tab. Pakistan MG3 belts have a black finish and are marked POF.

The way i tell at a glance is:

All of the 7.62 belts i have seen have dog leg connector tab.(like in your picture)

All the 8mm belts i have seen have a square connector tab.

Thanks RetiredBuilder...a simple way to differentiate them.
I have compared the belt shown above to an original WWII belt and they have the same dimensions.
