FUR M.G. AMMO CRATE
Re: FUR M.G. AMMO CRATE
This empty crate was also part of the deal. The ammo had already been opened and belted by the previous owner, too bad.

Wowzers, a rare find indeed.
Are any of those numbers, i.e. '40' or '45', dates?
Any non destructive way to have a peek inside?
Tom.

Tom,
Yes, 40 is the date.
I don't think I want to try and open any of the sleeves. They are a little fragile.
I also have another crate that still has all the sleeves in the original metal (zinc) box inside the wooden crate.

Do you know any more of the back story on them?
Tom.

Re: FUR M.G. AMMO CRATE
No, I didn't get any story with them. the Fur MG crate came from a guy who bought it from a guy and so on.Tommygunn wrote:Do you know any more of the back story on them?

I picked up the other sealed crate at the Knob Creek show years ago, and that one supposedly came from an estate.
Alot of this surplus German ammo was imported a few years ago, it may have all came from that.

So there was 5 cardboard boxes inside the crate. Well found 1 of the cardboard boxes at a show last weekend. Now need to find 4 more to fill a crate. Of course I'm going to need a crate also. O'well it's a start. LOL

Thanks, that's great that you found a sleeve. The sleeves are out there as well as the empty crates. I've seen them at the Creek also.
Please post a picture of the one you found.

Re: FUR M.G. AMMO CRATE
Would be interested in an empty or full (price???) or part full ammo crate for display reasons. Empty might be better as it sounds like my wallet. I trade stuff to get that sleeve of ammo.
MP44 got one to spare or anyone??

I don't have one that I want to sell but I am going to a show this weekend that usually does have a couple guys selling German WWII crates & boxes so I will take a look for you.42rocker wrote:Would be interested in an empty or full (price???) or part full ammo crate for display reasons. Re: FUR M.G. AMMO CRATE
Here's pictures of a couple more 8mm ammo crates that I picked up last weekend.
One's a Patronenkasten 88 like the one above and the other is a Patronenkasten 1500.
They both 1500 rounds of 8mm. This Patronenkasten 1500 held 1500 rounds of tracer.
