Semi Auto MP-44

I wonder if the recent import of the SA MP44 will soften the stigma of the rebuilt demilled kit.
He is one from GB http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =155156907
Their are a couple of barreled receivers list on their as well they seem to be coming out of the closet.

Wow, is that legal? I didn't see anything saying that the design had been changed to permit only SA parts? BATFE approval?

No, Matt. It is plain to see that tha selector switch is welded in place, the disconnector is removed, and the slot in the receiver for the disconnector is welded over. Since the lower grip in NOT permanently welded to the upper receiver, a full auto grip could be installed after removing the weld over the slot in the reciever that allows the disconnector to engage the bolt. Making this full auto would take me an hour or less with a full auto spare grip assembly. (I own a C&R MP-44 and a spare grip assembly).

The reason to avoid this one is not because it is capable of select fire, but rather can be restored to select fire with less work than the BATFE would find acceptable, IN MY OPINION. I would not chance it. Not enough alterations have been made. An agent would probably judge the modifications to this firearm too minor to remove it from being classified a "machinegun". It all depends on the judgement of the agent. Those guys sometimes rely on opinion more than actual gun knowledge.

Besides, the welds on the reciever aren't very neat anyway. They didn't make the surface of the weld the same texture as the surrounding sheet metal prior to rebluing the gun. And if the seller thinks he can get over $9K, much less the BIN price of over $12K, HIS JUDGMENT is not to be trusted. Better to get the PTR-44 for $5K and spend some of the difference on original magazines. Having the Waffenamts doesn't justify the price difference.

This along with the other barelled receivers listed look like recent rebuilds from the kits that were cut thru the trunions, It seems to me with the PTR44 out people feel more comfortable trying to sell these in the open market. Not having handled a PRT44 does anybody know if it has a swing down lower and will a FA bolt fit inside? These seem to be the two big red flags on a SA reweld from a demilled FA kit aside from the US made parts.

This gun was brought up in another forum. It was previously sold on GB for $8500. I guess the seller thinks it has improved with age. For that kind of money you may as well spend a little bit more and get a class 3 one.
