Re: heart attack

Post by JBaum »

I spent some days on a 1931 Cadillac Phaeton that was taken to a big show in Florida. A Phaeton is a convertible but doesn't have roll up side windows. The top has side curtains that hang down and snap on with windows in them. Imagine a Jeep soft top, but on a bigger car.
The owner called me from Florida to thank me for working on his car. He got 100 out of 100 points and best of show. I went through 30 pages of rules to make sure everything was correct. This was the kind of show that if you have pebbles stuck in the tire treads, they'll take off points. I even used a Sharpie pen to cover up the white UPC barcode that was printed on the fan belt. They didn't have barcodes in 1931, so you can't have them now on a restoration.

From that show he was invited to take the car to another big show that was by invitation only, and got 100 points there too. He's a very happy owner.

He just bought another Cadillac convertible, one of five made with a V16, and one of the two known to still exist from that year. He told me Friday he was going to need my services, and hoped I had some time for him. The old cloth covered wires are getting to be in bad shape, so I'll be making a new wiring harness for it and putting that in. Everything gets soldered with solder terminations (not the blue plastic crimp connectors) using correctly colored new cloth covered wire.

Sorry to hear about your heart attack. My father in-law just had a quadruple bypass a few months ago and is doing great after rehab. I pray you will do the same.

I did the mile walks for the first couple months, but I've got too much work to do to manage walking every day too. My mother lasted until she was almost 97, so I figure I've got another 25 years to go since my heart got a rebuild :)

Doing well here. I wasn't doing badly before the heart attack. Laying in bed for a few weeks after the bypasses and getting out of shape from that, was the worst thing I had to get over.

Yeah John, keep wrestling with that body of yours, and get back to normal..........The rest of us old guysare on that same road you are on, full of hazards, punji sticks and booby traps at our age.
......If get well enough and wish to visit KCR with your 42, let me know, and we can shoot together on the main firing line, and bitch about the MG Shoots not happening there anymore.... :)
Beautiful women are like well built machineguns: Some should just be looked at, and left alone, while others were built to get hot.

I'm doing OK, I just can't do OK 10 hours a day anymore. 3-4 is more like it

I'm still translating German stuff - working on a 650 page 1944 German Police Weapons and Shooting Technical Instruction book. All about shooting theory and proper use of a bunch of guns and police accessories and equipment - even police dogs are in it. Been on it for most of the year. Should have it done in another 4-6 weeks.

I can't die now, I have too much work to do.

Yup, doing OK. The electrical inspector wanted to know if it was OK for him to recommend me to other people (just got done upgrading a 100 amp service to 200 amps). I told him no, I'm trying to retire, I'm just not successful at it so far.

My mother died at 96, so I'm hoping to at least match that.... that means I'll be hanging around for another 25 years. :wnana:
