MG34&MG42 book to be reprinted plus second volume

Post by Folke »

The MG34&MG42 book written by me and published by Collector Grade Publications will be reprinted this spring. We are also finishing up a second volume, which will deal with stuff that has appeared since the publication of the first volume and a large assortment of pictures showing rare accessories in use. In the second volume we will also go into the postwar adventures of the MG34&MG42 all the way up to the MG3. At present time we are working on about 1,000 images which mostly will make it into the book. We will also cover in detail the MG08/15 Lafette and other interesting topics related to the German Universal Machineguns.

The first volume will be reprinted without changes, except for a touch up on the cover, which was a bit dark and gloomy the first time around.

If you are interested in purchasing one or both of these books when they come out, please e-mail me directly and I will let you know the price as it becomes available. The price will be in the same ballpark as the first volume has been, but that is the publishers decision, so I will not make any estimates. The second volume should be about the same size as the first one.

I am not sure when we will have the books ready from the printers yet, but will be updating on here as we go along. I am assuming that the middle of May is a good estimate. I will be signing books and shipping them for one weekend as soon as possible after the books are ready, so thats your chance to get one from me.

E-mail me at folkem@online.no if you want to reserve your copy now.

Talked with those folks a few months ago and was thinking about getting a dealership with them. If I do, anyone interested in a group buy. NO PREPAYS would be allowed, that settled those thoughts. If interested in something like that drop me a pm. If several are interested I will go from there. A % back to this website and a special (have been told can't offer a special public rate, b**) something would happen.

Looking forward to 2nd volume also. Hope that it has more on the makings of the mg42 itself and not how many different this and that stuff. That said still looking forward to it.

Book update

Post by Folke »

We are finally getting ready to send the new book to the printers, and the old book will be reprinted as well. Those of you that have already e-mailed me will be notified shortly with info on how to order. The new book will be the same size as volume one and will contain lots of information on the MG34 and 42 not used in the first book and a very exciting chapter about Dr Gruner and Hugo Schmeisser's "roadtrip" to the Soviet Union after world war two, where they worked on "secret projects" for the Russians.

A large post war section is also included where you will see details and markings from most of the known manufacturers of the MG1 and MG3 series. E-mail me if you want to reserve a signed copy from me. As mentioned above the book expanede as we worked on it and is now as big as the first one. The new volume contains only new information, we are not reworking the old stuff more than a few quotes to cross-reference between the two volumes. There is also an index that will help you find the subject you are looking for.

Ordering details

Post by Folke »

The books are promised from the printers at the end of July. I will be in the US to sign books and ship out the pre-ordered books on the weekend of August 10-13. If you still havent ordered a copy of the new book or the reprint or both, now is the time. Depending on how you pay for the book there will be various cutoff dates for you when I have to have your payment in for me to be able to ship your book. Price in the US is as follows:

German Universal Machineguns Volume 1 (reprint) MG34&MG42 $ 80,- US plus shipping
German Universal Machineguns Volume 2 From the MG08 to the MG3 $ 90,- US plus shipping

European or others, contact me for a price.

Books ready from the printers, last chance for pre-order

Post by Folke »

If you want to purchase either one of the two volumes, now is the time to make sure you get your autographed copy. I will be in the US on Agust 10-13 to sign books and ship them out, so if you have not ordered your copies yet, send me an e-mail and we will take it from there.

I am still waiting for about 15 guys in the US to respond to the payment instructions sent out to them. This is quite disappointing as I assume you want the book when you make an order and tell me "I will buy this". If this is you - get moving, ok?

Any inquiries about book purchases can be made to my e-mail folkem@online.no

Of course I am still selling them, but I live in Norway and postage will be rather high to the US at the moment. I will be selling the books at Knob Creek and will take orders for signed copies to be shipped out in October. If you are in a hurry to get it, the publisher will sell you the same book, but not autographed copies.

Happy to see that the books made it and also very happy to see that you enjoy them. Volume 3 should not be ruled out, if I get enough updated info and new stuff it might just happen in a few years. I already have small scraps of info to build on.
