I was doing some work on bipod recently and thought I'd share some photos and insights.
And because I've got an M53, here are the part numbers that I found:
S-113-19184 Bipod Head
S113-27129 Bipod Leg, Right
S113-24896 Bipod Leg, Left
The MG42 Bipod
Re: The MG42 Bipod
I picked up a replacement bipod and when I put it on the gun, I quickly discovered that it was "floppy" as all hell.
After a bit of examination between old and new, I discovered that the new bipod had not been assembled correctly. The hinge sleeve that limits the travel of the bipod legs is NOT symmetrical and must be in the correct orientation to properly limit how much the bipod can move backwards and forwards when in use.
The most obvious solution is to take apart the bipod head and reverse that block. However, as I discovered on my old bipod, one of the screws is stuck, so if you find yourself in that situation, I suspect you could also just take off the bipod legs, and reverse them (and then rotate the hinge).
The first photo shows the "floppy" orientation, while the second shows the correct orientation.
