Hello everyone,
Most everyone has seen the MG-42 bipods with the fluted adjustment screw for the bipod width underneath. Below are two bipods I have. THe first is from a parts kit from IO from 1944. You can see that the first bipod has a knurled adjustment screw and the rougher, uglier 1944 bipod was simplified by having no adjustment capability. The second is off my C&R MG-42, a Maget Code CRA gun made in early 1943. My question is, have any of you encountered any bipods with the knurled screw as found on my MG-42? If so, how common are they, and does anyone have a clue as to whether it is an early or late feature? Is the knurled knob a postwar replacement?
