Recuperator spring test revisited

Post by heckinohio »

My other post here asks about specifications for recuperator spring (barrel return assembly). I have tested mine in a most rudimentary fashion since no one had offered the correct proceedure or specicications. Gun #5895 was stood on a bath scale vertically w/flasher/booster removed. Scale stated 24lbs. Shouldering the gun in the normal shooting posture and pushing slowly downward revealed it took 25lbs to compress the recuperator. Gun #111m took 15lbs. This indicated that #111m was weak (and/or #5895 was too stiff). I had another assembly that Bob N. had rebuilt some time ago. I installed that assembly and it registered 30lbs. Still a 16% (is 5lbs 16% of 30?) difference but much closer in actual required effort to compress. I will test fire both guns today if whather and ditching project allow. Results asap........... Can someone else run this same test and see what the differences might be?????????
