I have an interesting picture I took taken of a picture of an MG08 atop the famous Brandenburg gate during the German revolution 1918-1923. (also note the Reichstag in the background) I had never seen it before. The second photo is the same location in 1999 when the Reichstag was wrapped in plastic. Just as interesting is where I took the picture of the photos. It was hanging inside the former DWM building in Berlin which is now a Deutschland archives building. I have photos of the DWM building and grounds as well if interested.
Upon further research I found this image. Government loyal German militia facing the camera with the MG08 facing Tiergarten. At first thought it would also be pointing directly toward the Victory Column but remembering history the column was actually located in front of the Reichstag until 1938 when the dictator had it moved to the Tiergarten roundabout. Written as a postcard, picture reads "On the roof of the Brandenburg Gate. Government-loyal troops are equipped with machine guns and hand grenades to fight the supporters of the Spartacus group".
