I know the actual start of this thread is really old (Jan 27, 2006), but the information in the original post is key to the talk of blank adapters and his problem. I recently found an original wood blank, and thought most people had probably never seen one, so I've included a picture. Sharing is good.

He says he is using a wooden blank. This means the bullet isn't jacketed lead, it is made of wood (actual wood - like sticks and logs), which was very common for German training. The below cartridge base shows that it was made in '44.

Talking about a restricted nozzle for a wood blank is useless, as a wood blank won't shoot with a nozzle restrictor, as the wooden bullet won't make it through the small hole. It takes the two piece blank barrel to make this work.

……..…..I would love to have just one of those original wood-tip blanks, for my collection.
...I have only be able to find Egyptian 7.92m wood tip blanks years back...…..as hard as the MG-42 bolt & F/P slams into the primer of those blanks, I can only get 40% or so to fire...….I have about 500 of them now; They must have been stored poorly before I got them. :D
Beautiful women are like well built machineguns: Some should just be looked at, and left alone, while others were built to get hot.

junglewalk……..
You could try asking around in the cartridge-collectors forums...…..someone will have one of those WWII German 8x57mm Blanks to let go.

I recall that a lot of Egyptian 8x57mm blanks use to be on the market. One of the units that I use to reenact WWI used them with an MG08 ….. fining thousands of them over the years.
The last place I saw these for sale (Egyptian-wood-tipped-blanks) was over ay GunPartsCorp……..I believe that they advertised them as "Vampire" ammunition.

Now that the MG42 Board is back up...…..we need to start to replace photos lost in the many threads that we have worked hard on...…..and update those missing photos that "Photo-Bucket" seem to blur-out and hold hostage.

Hopefully I can get started on my parts/photos shortly.
Question for the Mods: Do we just put them at the end of the threads and you more them (?).....or do we try to insert the photos as an edit-function where the photos would have gone (?)

has any one been able to shoot the brass 308 l31a1 rounds out of their mg34? my mg34 is set up for 308. I have a two piece blank fire barrel and a chromed lined live fire barrel. feed tray has been modified also. it runs the black plastic blanks like a champ. the brass ones are a bit shorter so I made a spacer to compensate. the only problem I have is the nose of the blank wants to sometimes angle up and wont feed properly. why the brass if the black plastic feeds? It would look more realistic for living history demonstrations .. also they aren't as loud. thanks for any information.

The finger of the pressure plate may need adjusted to properly guide the shorter shell into the chamber.

I have had good luck putting a second spring under the front feed pawl that was one of the 308 ones from BRP.

I was able to find a spring in my box of spares that was relatively close to the same size and strength as the original one. I'm not sure if anybody is selling them as spares but I'm sure you'd be able to find something at the hardware store as well.

You won't be able to edit the old messages to replace them with new photos, but if you place them at the end of the messages and let me know what message they match, I can move them.
