Re: German reasoning for the MG42 high rate of fire
Imagine having to carry a bren gun and it weighs only a few pounds less while it can only shoot 30 rounds at a time or a BAR at 6 less pounds with only 20 rounds! I felt like I was less accurate shooting the M240 in the Army than my own MG42 and that the rationale in the guidebook seems to hold up. ...

Re: German reasoning for the MG42 high rate of fire
No way! Everyone tells me the MG42 wasted too much ammo!

Re: MG08
Very nice. Is it a deactivated or live gun?

Re: MGZ40 Zeroing Procedure
Ok so I made the template and have just over 20 meters in my backyard to perform the boresight procedure with the template in John's manual. Here's the template I made. As a side note I found it hilariously German they'd specify one of the dimensions to the a tenth of a millimeter. You're supposed t...

Bipod Orientation
I've been having a little trouble with the bipod. On the two of the bipods I have, when they are deployed and the retaining tabs face rearward the bipod will allow the gun to flop forward but not rearward. I took a picture to show the gun is not flopping backwards with the retaining tabs to the rear...

Re: MGZ40 Zeroing Procedure
Thanks, John. I didn't know it was buried in the armorer's manual so far back in there! I made a bookmark and I guess I will have to cut up some cardboard and make a sighting board.

Re: MGZ40 Zeroing Procedure
I just read in Myrvang's book on page 318 it quotes a training manual that states the MGZ should be about 75mm off at 25 meter range, which seems to be about right for my azimuth. There are also some more procedures on page 363. It mentions if elevation is off it mentions to loosen both the eccentri...

Re: 3,000 meter indirect fire exercise,,, talk and interest
I've read the manual you translated, though I don't have access to it at my current house. It being a military manual, and German at that, makes it very stiff and opaque as to the principles of deflecting from a reference point (be it a siting stake, RK 31/aiming circle, or surveying tool) based on ...

MGZ40 Zeroing Procedure
So I'm trying to get my MGZ40 zeroed to mg MG42 on my Yugo lafette. I've managed to adjust the eccentric bolt in the scope base which has given me almost enough azimuth adjustment, it seems to be only a few mils off in azimuth when aiming at the corner of my neighbor's roof about 40 yards away. It's...

Re: 3,000 meter indirect fire exercise,,, talk and interest
I know this is an ancient thread, but I am interested in something like this. These days we could use drones to safely check the area and record the impacts from above to get a great view of the beaten zone. The only thing we would need is a richtkreis or other appropriate aiming circle along with a...

Re: lafette springs
I ended up here as I stretched one of mine a little too much in removing my lafette backplate. One side was still good though. Looks like 1mm wire thickness. Looks like 7 active coils and right at 1/4" OD so maybe 6mm OD and maybe 21mm OAL. The hooks are asymmetric but I don't think that would matte...
