Re: Break-Free Waterproofing?
I have used the Break Free "Collector" preservative for long term storage and it works GREAT. Very viscous. It really clings to the metal almost like a light grade GEL. That being said it would SUCK if it got sand /dirt mixed in it. Probably set up like Roman concrete!!! Regular break free works ver...

Re: # of hours to complete build?
I have built multiple 3 and 4 cuts. Multiple FA and SA for a local Class III dealer and 07 SOT..no Shells so I can't commenet on that. EVERY single one has been different. Several had to be cut in half and rewelded due to warpage at various stages. (you can induce warps with GRINDING...found this ou...

Re: WW2 MG42 Original Finish for build?
Also....have your welder do a LIGHT pass with a TIG over the post war Bund Eagle on the bottom right of your receiver in the picture. Use a light sanding disk to smooth the weld, thereby removing the post war stamp! Your going to too much trouble to recreate a WWII cira correct piece to not remove t...

Re: WW2 MG42 Original Finish for build?
There is some confussion on the light phosphate w/ clear coat. I personally dont believe it is actually a phosphate at all...Of the kits (from Dan and others) that I handled (about 50-60 in all) all the kits were bead blasted to bare steel and clear coated with various amounts of flash rust before t...

Re: How to fix the barrel door rivets ? or screws?
Tell ya a TRICK most folks don't know...if your kit came with a demilled Cam Piece, the large, long rivet is typically included with the head milled off. THAT RIVET is the same dia. as the barrel gate rivets so you can cut two small rivets to size from it, lock them in a vise and drill small dimples...

Re: Legit Stock or?
I've got agree to others here..waaaaaaay too clean and crisp. Just doesn't have the natural patina of 70 year old wood. The natural oils in wood darken wood even without stains and the grain pattern is just too tight and bright. Impossible to say 100% that is a fake, but I would pass if my money was...

It has a post war electropencil number in photo #3. Might be a deal breaker if your looking for original WWII condition.

Re: Rail length
DO NOT MOVE THE 'D' cut! Trim the front end of the rail that overhangs into the cam piece opening in the receiver.

Re: Barrel stop/barrel/recoup location
You are over thinking this!!!!. .+/_ .050 doesn't matter! The recoup has over 1" of travel and just returns the barrel to the full forward position OFF the cams so the bolt rollers are fully LOCKED in the barrel extension. The recoil impulse pushes the barrel BACK onto the cams (AGAINST the recoup p...

Re: Rail length
Don't worry about the rails! Rails are trimmed to fit in each receiver. EVERY RECEIVER IS DIFFERENT ESPECIALLY IF A REWELD. You should mount the rails then file flush with the cam piece opening, or use some proper sized bolts to mount the rails, mark the correct length, unbolt, trim to size then riv...

Go about 1/2 way down this thread... http://www.mg42.us/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7461 there is a brief explanation of what your wanting to know about receiver marking...with a few pictures. So much documentation was destroyed at the end of WWII and the actual armourers are mostly all dead, i'm not sure w...

Re: Help ID Markings
The squirrel is "Eickhorn" (sp??). They make military bayonets (M16, Galil, R4) and other military fighting knives as well as subcontract for stamped parts for various German military gear. Never seen a Eickhorn feedtray, i have seen a MG3 top cover with an Eickhorn stamp. The z stamp is an armourer...

WTS...MG42 3 cut receiver and parts
This is a all German COMPLETE 3 cut receiver with original uncut rails, cam piece, dust cover and barrel gate latch. Markings on the left rear receiver indicate this is a Maget built gun with a 1944 (NC) date code. The barrel gate is still mounted on the right side. The front booster and the rear bu...

Re: Need help ID'ing this receiver piece
PvtJoker,
Yours is a Gustloff-Werke receiver made in 1945, hence the "svq" code. The "bpr" is Grossfus, unforetunately, I don't know who "rea" is although I have several with the seperate markings.

Re: Need help ID'ing this receiver piece
Okay...a little expansion of previous comments.. Just because a receiver has a manufacture Code etched on the side the receiver like the receiver (M.U. on top for Gustloff-Werke Suhl . "CRA" on lower one which stands for Maget. The GH at top is a date code 1943), Maget or Gustloff may (or may NOT) h...
