By channel, I'm guessing you mean inside the receiver?
I too used Aluminum Oxide (80grit) and it was time consuming to blast, but not impossible or difficult.

Not yet, but he did do 3 of my RC K98s and they turned out awesome. Hopefully I'll get it done in the next month.

I have 9 ready to go. 4 without safety holes and 5 with. 8 of them are made of Oak and 1 is made of walnut. They need to be finish sanded. They can be stained also, and need to be oiled. I use the Beachbum grip with an unmodified AR FCG. Its worked for a year now with no problems.
