Started pounding in the long rivet and it started to bend within the plate window. How should this be done?
Thanks!

Re: Best way to complete Cam plate rivet?
Two thoughts come to mind.
1st alignment was everything perfect??
2nd Slightly angle the end of the rivet to help guide it on its way through. Place the rivet in the freezer overnight and then light oil then in it goes.
I used the bolt method as I'm not totally ready to park and then duracoat it yet. I'll try to remember this and make sure that I'll be ready with this at that time.
Good Luck

I'm chicken, so I use the long bolt. I bolt my rails in too, thread them to 5mm and use short round-head allens....Sorry, I have no backbone. That said, I believe that it is necessary to heat the head of the long rivet red-hot, then mushroom it with a rivet-gun bit. Or anneal the end first....the replacement rivets on the market are too hardened to flare cold, in my opinion....Phil

Re: Best way to complete Cam plate rivet?
In reviewing the last two posts mine then Phil's, I offer the following.
1st taper the edge of the rivet going in then freeze the rivet and then oil and install. If all goes well and it's through then
2nd Like Phil said heat the end of the rivet now that it's through and work on making that mushroom.
Sounds like both Phil and I used the bolt method.

Thanks 42 and Phil!
I had actually completed step 1 in with same method :-). Sorry my post was not clear.
So, looks like heating tip red hot, then pounding is way to go. Will give that a try.
Thanks!!

Heat and then lots of small blows then use something to help form a round rivet head. There is some good info on this site on riveting.
Also double check the amount of rivet that is sticking out. Sometimes you were given way to much and it needs to be cut back before you start to form it. There used to be notes on length (sticking out) vs dia, someplace.
