Guys,
Those photos that you thought were MG34 are actually the "MG15" with the "ground-mount-kit" (which was an accessory item).

Hi again Richard!
I think (from what I can gather) that they are reffering to pictures that are no longer there!
BUT! Take a look at the first picture again. It actually shows a MG34 (missing the buffer assy) mounted in a aircraft hull. That must be a "misunderstanding" at the best!

Can anyone offer up a good explanation for the aircraft sights!? Sometimes the aiming post and the waffle is shown with places traded (rear sight and front sight change places!)

You are correct.....I was looking at "old-photos" and couldn't see the deteled photos.
In that first photo....you can just make out the MG34 behind the MG15.
The one MG34 without the butt-stock-assembly looks out of place in use in an airplane.
Good to see you made it to the MG42-Board Bergflak.

Yes.....MG15 w/Ground-Mounts.
On that earlier MG34 with butt-stock removed.....do you notice something is missing ?????
....you're right.....no buffer-assembly. Looks like they just put a "cap" on the end of the receiver (display/dummy-gun) where the buffer-assembly would attach.

Yepp. What really puzzles me is that someone has got the finances to put an aircraft on display, but misses on a simple mg!

There are a few quick glimpses of MG15s in use in aircraft in this clip from "The Battle of Britain."

"...Help yourselves, boys, there's no fighter escort!..."
Shame they just show the reciprocating cocking handle and nothing else -
The front sights are like my replica one from IMA-USA - trying to find one of those cooler looking pressed steel ones, with the plane shaped rear sight.
Always loved that movie.
