I was looking at Omega's C96 broomhandle add on their site and wondered what people think of them.

They say they are refinished in Germany.

What's the real story on these - are they reconditioned Chinese or maybe fakes or are they good?

I no little about broomhandles except that I always thought they looked cool when I was a kid. An earlier thread recommended a site and, man, it got complicated with all of the varieties and warnings.

Still, I like them. Are Omega's any good?

Gee, I am kind of surprized that no one has an opinion. I thought I would hear from some of the collector types on this.

Please comment if you can. I'm a bit nervous about the quality. I called Omega and they think they are wonderful. They have been refinished and are supposed to be very good. I don't need a museum piece, but a nice looking shooter might be fun. They sure cost a lot.

Well the pic looks good. But right now these are a bit out of my price range. Let's hope these are better done than the ones I have had.

I have owned a few in the past. First one was a rebuild done by of done for a company called Oyster Bay Industries in NY. It was a 9mm version with a 4" barrel. It looked good and was advertised as being completely rebuilt. However the recoil spring was so weak it refused to feed any rounds. So I fired it by pushing the bolt forward manually. After one box of ammo thru it the new barrel started to come unscrewed from the upper receiver. I sent the gun back and exchanged it for a 7.63 version that was resleeved. It was all matching but the bluing was poor. I took that one to the range and managed to fire only 6 shots before it broke. I small piece of the hammer bushing broke off and got stuck in a spot that prevented the hammer from striking the firing pin. While cleaning it I noticed that the new sleeve they had pressed into the barrel was cracked near the chamber end.
So I traded that gun for a P-38 which I still have.

If somebody does own one of the Omega C96's please post your experience. I would like to get one but not if it turns into a repeat of what I went thru with the above 2 Broomhandles.

If it was an original Red 9 in good condition, $750 is a steal!

I live about 40 minutes from Omega and have seen those pistols at the shows. Some are good and some are rough. But they look to be all-matching, though. Good for shooters.

Saw some of these at the Houston show recently..Blue/guns looked good, guns did not have that overpolished, wrong color blue etc. I thought they did a good job but broomhandle prices even refins are up there nowadays....
