WTB/WTT REARMOST MG42 Recvr PIECE

Post by blckwlfny »

Looking for a PIECE of the MG42 rear receiver. I need the rearmost 2-3"" In a perfect world, it would be a piece that is perhaps cut through the oblong hole on the bottom of the receiver so as to clear the recouperator anchor and bottom of buffer lockup plate.

Thanks guys

I haven't seen that section sold by itself in a long time.
I need one as well, but just thought it was futile to ask.
I could also use some of the grip stick area.

If interested I have a few of the late IMA rear receiver sections that are cut up. I could sell them as sets. I'm reluctant to break up the sets unless there was a comittment for each part. I'd have to dig them out to get the makers codes and pics. $275 a set.

How about a pic of your sets? I may also be interested.

Heli,
I might be interested in a small part of the rear section- the cut areas in my IMA rear set would be FAR nicer to weld up if I had enough of those channels to cut filler sections. You can see them over the grip and behind its mount in the photo.

I have a small section that might be used as filler. Pictured below. $30 shipped in CONUS. Paypal OK. Post "I'll take it" if you want it, then PM me. I think that's the process we've established!

Not really interested in breaking up the sets. As for your gaps those are easy fixes. You just need to build up each piece with weld and reshape prior to assembly. Makes for a very nice finished piece, as I have done three of them that way. Even matching reciever pieces have 1/4 removed from the demill. If you build it up and re shape prior to joining the pieces you will have a nearly flawless butt weld. Which is more mechanicaly sound than filling the void with weld and a copper backing plate.

Heli-Would you build up the weld with some sort of backer to avoid extra weld on the inside,or without a backer, let it build up,then grind to fit? First way seems like less grinding,is second way better metalurgicaly? [is that a word?]You know what I mean.Thanks. ---bil

The second way is the best. It allows for full penetration and you also will not have overburn or sinkage. By adding more than you need inside and out it makes for a better part.

I do all my semi builds of demills that way if possible. Granted it takes more time, but in the end you are hard pressed to find the welds on the outside. And very little distortion, gap, sinkage on the inside where all the moving parts are located. By building up and fitting the parts this way, as you would by cutting overlapping pieces. You also help to eliminate overall warpage and shrinkage.

Heil

Here are the pics of the IMA rear receiver section I have available. $275 plus shipping for the set. The rails were left in when demilled but the recouperator was removed. Only what you see is what you get.
