Here are the pics that I promised of the bbl shroud that I got from alleg. Arsenal for $500 (not 188 !!). It is a dot 43, and came with the rear sight attached (a nice surprise). Most of the bbl shrouds that I have bought were stripped of all parts. I did not receive the booster cone or flash suppressor, and I understand that the booster cone was not the same as the standard mg34, and has some type of clip to hold it in. If anyone has a pic of the setup for the panzer model, I would like to see a pic of the booster and clip that holds it in. The front third of this shroud has some type of reddish wash on it, as most of the blueing was gone. Now all I need is the clamp on front sight/bipod mount and the clamp on anti-aircraft sight mount !! Anyone got either of these to sell ?? I would also like to locate the metal box that the ground kit came in...just in case you have 2 or 3 of these hanging around (Ryan S. probably does ! ).
I stuck a regular flash suppressor on to make it look good for the pics !

The plum red color on the front section is correct for some examples. I have one with a deep plum front section. Until I saw other examples, I also thought that it was some sort of rework color but this just appears to be how the bluing came out on some of them. Just this past weekend I saw pictures of another original condition panzermantel with the same coloration on the front section. The latter example was a complete kit from a live MG which was demilled. Yours is not a fluke.

I have seen two types of flash hider cone retainers. One type is like a round, flat washer which is slid over the threads behind the recoil booster cylinder, which is then screwed into the barrel jacket. It has a small finger of flat steel which then extends forward at a 90 degree angle--it comes to a point and has a little nub on it which rests in the grooves of the flash hider. It is the bottom example in the picture attached--it's dark but you should be able to make it out. This should not be hard to fabricate. I have an example of this type but it's in storage. I would take a closer pic of mine but I don't know the next time I will have it out.

I was not aware of the second type until recently. There is at least one example of a front bipod mounting clamp and front sight which also has a "traditional" flash hider retention part--like the regular kind you see on ordinary kits but attached to the clamp-on bipod mount. It is the upper example in the picture. I found this very interesting.

About ten years ago I.M.A. was selling the MG34 tanker ground assault kit with the bipod adapter,flash hider and buttstock in a metal can.I think the I.M.A. ad stated that the conversion kits were used by the tank crew if their tank became disabled.I wish I hadn't thrown most of my old Shotgun News magazines out when I moved because they had a nice drawing of the kit.

About 18 months ago, when I was first becoming interested in the MG34, and before knowing what was what, there was a MG34 kit with the Panzer Shroud on Gunbroker. It sold on a buy it now for around the 500$ mark if I remember correctly, and it was on there for a couple days. Anyone else remember seeing it, or did someone here pick it up? Chris.....

That was me! the reciever is numbers matching to the shroud. I hemmed and hawed for a day and finally said to hell with the groceries this week. Am glad I did it though.
