What's the deal w/ the crappy aluminum/wood grips?

Post by ChrisPCook »

So far I had dodged the bullet, but recently received a trigger housing w/ the dreaded (at least to me) aluminum/wood job grips, not the bakelite. Was this a postwar Yugo deal or what? Chris....

Aluminum grips are not correct. HOWEVER, there are cases where wood was used as a hasty repair item in the field, after the bakelite grips were damaged. My MG-42 can with wooden improvised grips, but it is not possible to tell if they were "originally" made during the war or were made postwar. I assume they are postwar based on their relatively like-new condition. You should be able to find some postwar Yugo brown grips or some wartime original German brown or black grips if you hunt around.
