I posted this up in the 42 section, but looking for some quick feedback...
What marking are correct wartime markings, and which are postwar, I think a lot of these cans that are postwar may be passed off as wartime with a little paint. I have seen the Oel cans, but would an Ol can (with two dots above the O) also be correct? I guess a lot of these also went to German satellite allies during the war, with Romanian cans being marked Oleo and Petroleo? If anyone can help me get this straight before I purchase some that would be great, also what is the current market like for these (i.e.- a good price to pay)? Chris....

Re: Oel and Petroleum Can Markings?
Hello,
i recently bought a russian captured p-tin set which contains two of the cans you mension, an oil can which on the handle has a small plate riveted to the handle and has the words M.G.OEL , this can also has a small waa mark in the bottom left corner of the plate, stating WAA542, the other can on the handle has the impressed words PETROLEUM, on the side of the handle opposite to the spout has the manufacturer code impressed CJS, with a small waa mark, but i cannot quite see what the code number is on this one due to the russian green over paint, i may strip the paint off to see the code more clearly, both these tins were housed in a genuine 250rnd mg34/42 ammo box and on the top of the lid impressed has the waa marking stating WAA21, i checked the waa codes listed and these are all genuine german markings, hope this info helps

Re: Oel and Petroleum Can Markings?
Hi, I'm new to the sight but I've been reading a lot of the posts & enjoying the info.
I'm also looking for a "p"-tin set for my collection. I have a TNW semi '34 & I've been trying to gather some items for it. Could anyone direct me as to where to look for a set of these cans - I just don't know where to look.
I also just bought a post war AA tripod from I.O. & it came with the MG 42 adapter on it - does anyone out there know how I could convert it correctly for my '34?
By the way, I just purchased an awesome original gunners' pouch & kit from Drew Zigo at 1944 Militaria a couple days ago - it's one of the best & most complete I've ever seen - the pouch is in near perfect/unissued condition - just some exterior scratches from storage & it has every tool/accessory including a complete bolt inside! If anyone wants to see pics of it it is still listed on his website: http://www.1944Militaria.com. It's listed under, "new original items" and is at the top of the listing - very first item.
Thank you in advance for the help - I really appreciate it!
God Bless & Merry Christmas to all!

IMA has the adaptors, I thought, or perhaps IO did. (Interordnance, but they now seem to go by I.O.)ChefIMww2 wrote:Hi, I'm new to the sight but I've been reading a lot of the posts & enjoying the info.

Try Ryton arms in England, or ask what show they'll be at, they were selling them at the last Tulsa Gun Show.

Re: Oel and Petroleum Can Markings?
Hi, are this cans war or post war made, please? There isn´t M.G.Oel, but W.Sch.Oel.
Thx

Robert, I can't see your picture, could you try again?? Something may not have worked.

Re: Oel and Petroleum Can Markings?
Waffen Schutz Oel : Weapon Protection (Preservative) Oil, modern BW Oil can for their Breakfree (CLP) equivalent. Remember, the wartime kit was two oil cans in an ammo can, one with kerosene for cleaning and one with their lubricant/protectant (petroleum and synthetic petroleum products and even Sunflower oil on Ostfront)
