They are right Tomcat. The book I was referring to also shows 4 or 5 shades of Dunkelgelb. Looks like that company is up on their colors...Nice to know.

Thanks, Boys:

I think I might have that book from about 40 years back when I was doing plastic airplanes ;) I'll have to look out in the shop.

A set of "cards" would be great so that a guy could get the colors mixed locally.

my plan would be to get the "master panel cards" and have them mixed into an plain enamel base....(ie, no urethane or epoxy) in a low sheen (eggshell maybe for some durability and ease of cleaning if possible) and check them for correctness....and then give them a paint code number that could be used at any automotive store accross the country for all to use.

I did this with a dupont color once to mimic wwII aircraft zinc chromate primer in a dupont emron paint.

While I was out in the shop this afternoon, I scraped a little of the OD off the dust cover on one of my drums. I'll bet this is the late war Ordnance Tan.

In the photo, I see that there is some of the tan peeking out from behind the belt notch in the cover. This drum is an "hqu 42". My other drum is "hqu 43" and it has a coat of pretty flat black in the notch where it didn't get oversprayed with OD 8)

MGMike and All who are interested,

Just an update, I am still diligently working on getting correct color samples mixed and standard paint numbers assigned. I have "master paint sample cards" coming from somewhere in EU from an expert paint restoration company. And as soon as I receive them, I will be compairing them with the book samples that Reichpapers suggested and also compairing them to original painted items that I have. That way I have 3 points of referance.

Then I will choose a well known paint company that has stores throughout the country, and start having paint samples made and check them for correctness of shades. I will have members here also check and confirm before I assign numbers and then It will be made available to all who are interested so this takes all the guessing work out of it. I am leaning towards an oil base enamel in a satin finish to aid in maintenance and cleaning, but colors should be able to be mixed in any sheen your hearts desire.
