mg34/42 lafette markings question

Hi guys,
I have got a nice 1937 dated mg34/42 lafette tripod on its way (yes managed to find one at last :P ) and i want to remove the post war green color to reveal the markings and prep for a repaint, what is the best way to remove paint to show up markings without damaging them? i dont want to sand blast it as i fear it will damage
