Picked this up at the SAR show. I also found a pistol grip at another table but it was incomplete and damaged. I was told that there were a couple of these that came out of the Balkans and that they ended up going to Norway as complete guns.

That's a pretty neat item. Too bad you don't have the rest.

glassmountains,
I picked up a nice MG34/41 Parts-Kit with two (2) DEMILed receivers. I would like to see a photo of the pistol-grip asembly if possible. ....and maybe you might want to dispose of those unwanted parts that you just listed........you can reach me directly by e-mail at:
Blanksguy2001@chartermi.net
The collar on my barel is marked MG34/41......but the center of the barrel (markings) do not list it as a "model"....just serial-number, maker, etc.
Parts for the MG34/41 and the MG34S seem to be interchangeable......and as soon as I can figure a way to post some photos I will start a short "Thread" on this Model and what I know of it. Almost all of the parts are marked for the "model".
My overseas "source" tells me that approximately 35 of the MG34/41 and/or MG34S were brought out of Russian arsenals a couple years ago........and all sold to European collectors.
I am still looking for spare-parts (barrels, bolts, and a few smaller parts).
Be safe, RichardS.

Hi Tom R,
The MG34S and MG34/41 were experimental MG34 models made about late 1941 to mid 1942 as the German troops were looking for higher rates of fire......and the Germans were considering these models which fired about:
MG34/41: 1,200 RPM
MG34S: 1,400 RPM (?)
.....if I have my figures remembered correctly from "The MG34 and MG42" book.
Only about 1,700 of these were made......and most sent off to the Russian front for "testing" under live-fire combat conditions. A few ended up in Norway and a few other countries....but unknown if they were sent these for testing...or later "traded" for other weapons after WWII by the different countries.
Remember now that this MG34/42 and MG34S were "tested" at the same time as the MG39 and later MG39/41 which became the MG42 as we know it.
So Tom R., I guess to answer your question "Whats a 34s"?.....the MG34S was a short-barel/barrel-jacket length (buy about 4"-5") model of the MG34 that fired at a rate of about 1,600 RPM.....made about 1942.
Be safe, RichardS.

Other differences are the bolt and FCG. The FCG is milled and looks like 34 but has guts similar to 42. Bolt is much beefier.

Just got done looking at my set.....FCG is "stamped" sheet-metal...looks to be spot welded together in the MG42 fashion....with heavier metal end-pieces that mount into the receiver for the pins.
Bolt is deffinately different.....with rollers and no firing-pin catch.....seems to just let the firing pin hit the primer when it closes into the barrel-extension. Bolt does come apart easier......just push in on what looks like the left-rear-roller and the bolt comes apart.
Be safe, RichardS.

The FCG I saw was milled not stamped.

glassmountains,
Not disputing what you saw for a FCG.........just letting them know what I have as part of that MG34/41 that I have.
The Trigger-Group I have looks like it is made like MG42 (sheet-metal-formed) with the addition of extra reinforcements at front and rear where the pins mount into the MG34/41 (or MG34S) receiver.
Be safe, RichardS.

I would love to see a photo of this as well, Folke has some great info on these guns in the MG34/42 book, but more photos of more examples is always good for knowledge!
Very nice piece!!!
