Are you aware of the shorter type Starter tabs???? (mg34 mg42)
It seems that a lot of people don`t know this nice early 1938-1939 type Starter tabs.
I have like 500 normal tabs..and within those were only 25 from the shorter tabs. Most have the same dates and marks in 38/39.
I show one near a normal 3-link tab.
Does anybody have more info about them..?? Why the German made them like this?
I heared they are also pictured in this book: Mg34-42 universal machine gun. I still don`t have that book...should buy it ;-)
Btw I posted them in the FS part..I don`t collect this..together with some other rare stuff.
Cheers Tommy

Sure I'm aware of them. Gunners didn't like them because they didn't help much to reload the weapon under stress. The cartridge under where the starter strip meets the ammo belt jammed most of the time because of the extra tension the bolt needed to over come. The longer tabs had the junction after two live rounds, allow for the transition to occur during a burst when there was more energy on the forward movement of the bolt.
Gunners through away the short ones. Rare? Sure. Not $30+ each rare.
Good luck!
