75 partial MG34 lafette tripods for $15k

Post by Panzerschreck »

You've probabaly already seen the ad, but Ohio Ordnance is offering 75+ MG34 lafette tripods for $15k.

We're clearing out one of our rows in the warehouse! 75-80 near complete MG34 Tripods and two crates full of miscellaneous 34 tripod parts. We will have to set up freight shipping or available for local delivery or pick-up.

This would be a great idea for a group buy.

How long do you think it would take Ryan Schnee to restore 75 lafettes? :)

i looked at those tripods a couple years ago in person while in cleveland. they are all missing the optic block, range table and most are missing the searching fire mechanism guts for some reason. ohio ordnance bought all these in 2000-2002 and did a big rebuild project. they manufactured the optic blocks and the range tables and added new pads. these are the left over parts and probably more trouble than they are worth, for those in need of parts it would be great if they sold them that way. it would take a long time to restore all those and lots of parts would have to be made! - matt

Would be neat to have the parts to convert a '42 back to a '34 :cross: :cross: :cross:

Still, one of the boxes looks like the searching fire mechanisms. Plus parts are parts. I would be interested in going in on a group buy. I have $1K - $2K to throw into the pot. The parts would have to go to someone who could be trusted to divide them up according to amount put in.

I would put a fair amount of money into a group buy if I was able to get one good 34 tripod out of it... But, the logistics of a group buy can be a PITA at times. Wish I lived near Ohio Ordnance, I love to pick through that pile. Chris..

i think the problem would be that there will not be any complete tripods. before putting any money into a group buy i would want a complete accounting of all the parts and then how do we divide them up evenly? seems like a can of worms - matt

I have to agree with Matt on this -
With Lafette34's selling for $2500 and up do you guys really think that OOW would sell these if complete examples could be built from the parts?

they could give out the painting buckets like home depot orange buckets. fill a bucket and get 10% off. I would drive over to sarco for that!

I kind'a agree with Orin.
From the 75 sets, If they were able to make at least 6 complete setups at going
price of $ 2500 today they would do it.
The 6 x 2500. would recoup their 15M price immediately
and they would have tons of parts to sell too.
Makes me think not even enough to make 3-4 complete setups
or they wouldn't be taking the "one price for all" route.

It wasn't Sarco,,, it wasn't TNW..... I know, I know, but I ain't tellin'.

I thought about buying them myself, but it would take a few years to sell off all that stuff, and my commercial building is rented out, and my house garage has the wife's car in it.....

I suggested to the buyer that he makes conversion kits for the MG42 lafette, that way somebody could have both for less money. Just switch the top ends and you're converted. We'll see what happens. He told me he got them, but I won't be seeing him till Knob Creek.

That's the problem with Knob Creek....too far away....do you think they could move it Alaska for a year? IAW It would be nice to get one more Lafette though, I have one that was made in 1939, original paint to boot. Wish I would have bought more, got it for the princely sum of 1100$ when the MG34 bug first hit. Chris...

Chris, the problem isn't that Knob Creek is too far away from you, it's that you're too far away from it!!!!

Move back to civilization, and it will be a lot closer. :)

I'm counting the days John....SOS, Knob Creek, can't wait to see 'em all. What I really miss is being able to hop in the car and just drive where you want to go....the thought of a 24 hour straight through cannonball run from one location to another is now appealing. Up here you have to buy plane tickets to go anywhere, and Alaska Airlines have created a monopoly. Money that could be well spent on MG34 items ends up going to plane tickets instead... Chris..

If the topmounts to convert the 42 to a 34 DO become availlable, now would be the time to get a spare Sarco lafette.Remembar that there were other changes made,it is not as easy as just switching tops. But it can be done.I really want one, though.Chris, you were lucky to get yours when you did!Sort of makes up for being stuck in Alaska, although I hear there is a good view of Russia from there! ---bil
