I received several new translations from John Baum yesterday and I wish I had ordered these sooner! Wow, it is great to easily read the original German manuals. But, the big plus is the information in the latest translations, it is fantastic. I got the Post War MG1/2 manual, the Lafette 34 manual, the 1943 version of the MG42 Training manual. The information would certainly help any of you building a SA gun! The MG1/2 manual has a lot of illustrations for how the gun is assembled, operation, and stoppages.
Besides making for good reading, the technical information is great and they sure answer a lot of questions. Although I have the Lafette 34 manual, the tripod is identical to the Lafette 42 except for the mounting. I highly recommend these translations as they go into more detail than Volke's excellent book.
I also got the StG 58 manaul for my Austrian FN/FAL. If you have one of these rifles you need this book too. There is info not covered in other books on maintenance and how the tools are used.
OK, now I have to wait for the next round of translations and this time I am not going to procrastinate on ordering them, LOL

It's better to be silent and considered a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.
I recieved two of his mg42 manuals about two weeks ago, and its given me more confidence
in breaking the gun down completely. The troubleshooting sections are excelllent, and right
on the money for any snags I may have ran into so far with my '42.
you just can't get around to not owning one of his books, and having a german gun.

The messages you guys post about my work are very much appreciated. I hope to meet some of you guys soon. I will be at Knob Creek again this fall if any of you make it. I'll be at table C-17.
Reichpapers, did you get your manuals yet? I sent some to an Army Sergeant who is training the Iraqis on some MG3s they bought from Pakistan. I'm very pleased that I could be some help to you guys. My son rode in the turret of the rear Humvee on a lot of trips in Afghanistan.... he said he'd much rather have had my MG42 instead of the 240G he used. The MG42/MG3 is a pretty tough weapon to surpass.
thanks,

jons books are great, always a pleasure to deal with people that provide an excellent product at a resonable price

Great men are born in fire, it is the privilege of lessor men to light the flame, no matter the cost
