Wooden Buttstock stress cracks
Wooden Buttstock stress cracks
Anyone have a good approach for repairing wooden buttstock stress cracks - the type of cracks on the sides of the buttstock near the buffer area.. How about any ideas of rewiring a wire reinforcment that is loose??

if you can't fix it buy another I guess, won't the crack just keep spreading?

The buttstock number matches other parts of the kit ( top cover and charging handle) so I'd like to try to repair it. I'll try the acraglass.
Crack may not continue to spread if I rewrap the wire reinforcement. Right now it's kinda loose and I'd guess crack would continue if left as is. Looks like I could rewarp wire reinforcement and solder as I go.
Anyone ever try rewraping wire ??
If all else fails, I'll look for another buttstock.

Butt Cracks
OK, no jokes about the "subject" I typed, LOL!
A visible Butt Crack is not a pretty sight.......wait, we are talking about an MG42 buttstock so back on the subject.
Seriously, the cracks may only be on the surface and not actaully go thru the stock, but I would have the same concern. I think the Acraglass would help stop the cracks and rewiring the stock would solve your problem. But, another suggestion would be to repair your original, and buy one of the bakelite stocks for shooting, and use your original for display.
The stock does not take much abuse the way we use them. They are not subject to abuse during firing, so the repairs should be sufficeint to preserve the stock
