Correct bipod position?

Are the bipod legs supposed to angle back towards the gunner or forward from the gunner when firing? Most combat pics seem to indicate that the bipod should angle back and it would seem you would want to counter the recoil effects by using it this way. But then I've read that this is incorrect and the legs should go forward of the bipod apex. What is the correct method?

I angle it back so the bipod feet are forward so I can lean into the gun.
