Re: Legit Stock or?
I can't say yes or no on this one. I have never seen the WaAmp and other mark on anything real before. Have seen and I own that style buttstock, without wires before.
Others are going to have to offer their yes and no on this one.

Re: Legit Stock or?
A very pretty stock with perfect woodgrain that has never dried out and has not been refinished. And by 1944, I'd think it would have the wire wrap. Also, that's the worst fitting of a cup I've ever seen. It's twisted off alignment.
The surprising thing is the holes drilled to dowel the corners for strength.
Original? A definite maybe not.

Great points. Thinking about the one or two that I have, they are quite dried out. A great point that style of early in 1944?

Have you ever seen any "true" marks like those on a buttstock??

Re: Legit Stock or?
I've seen waffenamt stamps on both bakelite and wood stocks. I have a wood stock with a waffenamt, a 3 letter code, and 1943 stamped on it, so they were made that way. It would be interesting to have the grease that's around the bolt head checked to see its age.
The one in the ad looks just like the one I got from Dan Bartha years ago, except Dan did a better job of putting in the cup and he didn't bother to groove the rear end. The way the cup is made is with small V shaped tabs that stick out of the back and penetrate the wood when screwed together. You'd have to have a proper jig to force it in straight and not let it twist.
While just looking at it, I found the smoking gun that says "repro". In the last picture it shows the inside of the cup. You can see that the spring is blued. That's a big NO NO that's stated in the manuals I've translated. Springs aren't blued, they're left alone as blueing can change the temper of the steel. The guy didn't take the insides apart when he reblued it.

I am shocked there is gambling in Casablanca, seriously thanks Jbaum for confirming my suspicions, some poor sad-sack is going to overpay, but worse think they have a piece of history when it only is just a piece of wood that came from a Slovenian chop-shop.

Re: Legit Stock or?
I'm not saying it isn't a great looking stock, I'm saying it's not what's it's be presented to be.
Re: Legit Stock or?
the waffanamt on this stock is 100% correct for the maker hvg. it is waA34 , the Font is also correct - hvg did make patterns in this stock without any sort of wire/strap iron reinforcment - my hvg 44 stock has the strap iron reinforcment - the stock looks good to me, the only thing i can point out IMO is that it looks to have been lightly sanded, possibly to clean.
Re: Legit Stock or?
Fake as a $3.00 bill IMO.
Sanded very nicely. Trouble is once sanded the stamp would all but dissapear, where this one is still strong looking as if done after sanding. Just looks too way too clean. Its a nice stock, but a humped one...worth maybe $100 to the right buyer.

Re: Legit Stock or?
I've got agree to others here..waaaaaaay too clean and crisp. Just doesn't have the natural patina of 70 year old wood. The natural oils in wood darken wood even without stains and the grain pattern is just too tight and bright. Impossible to say 100% that is a fake, but I would pass if my money was on the line.
Mess with the Bull and you'll get the HORNS!

Re: Legit Stock or?
Not bad for a reblued cup that was put into the wood crooked. Maybe next time they can get it so that the stock will be on straight when its mounted on the gun.
