Forgive me if somebody has already posted this (not enough time to go through all the posts) but that appears to be a 7.62x39 PKM you are building.

Your build also reminds me of the M-60 with ejection port cut on the side (opposite side though) and the long channel for a receiver.

The PKM is an upside down, belt-fed AK47 in 7.62x54R. I have a kit and an 80% receiver that I have to build.

VERY cool my man... ;)

thanks,
Ron

Adjustable gas tube

Post by SHARPSSHOOTER5090 »

What just occured to me is that I haven't shown the adjustabe gas relief tube on the gas tube I have planed. The pictures of the gas tube have only one gas relief port one each side. I think I will try it with just the 2 holes and if it throws the bolt back to hard I will drill 2 more holes about a half inch forward of the exsisting ones.

Hey; I never felt for myself when shooting my AK; but will the handguards on the gastube get hotter then the ones on the barrel? I do not know if the heat generated by the gas in the tube is greater than the heat generated by the friction of the bullet in the barrel. :|

Gas Tube Heat

Post by SHARPSSHOOTER5090 »

On my FAL the barrel gets much hotter quicker than the gas tube but the gas relief holes are only about 1/2" back from the gas block. I am sure I will have to put a heat shield in the lower handguard to protect it from direct contact from the gas that comes out of the gas relief holes. For now, I will try it with out any lower hand guard until I am satisfied with the functioning then I will add all the bells and whisles and finish. Now if the weather here would just stay dry enough so I can go out to the desert and try it. I don't believe the local gun range will look favorably at any thing that looks like a machine gun, even though it is SA.
