The fullest armourers kit to date.

Post by Damien Horn »

Hi,
Sorry to bore you with another armourers kit, but this one is just so full of kit it is obscene. I guess you guys realise that if one of these turns up without the 3 piece cleaning rod then it most likely is for the MG.13 and not the 34. Also the 2 trays do not have the same quantity of tools in them as the 34 ones. I did not know that until a ex German gunner told me.

Hi Damien,

How about a tutorial on what the individual tools were used for. I can't imagine the need for some of them.

Hi John,
I'll supply the pictures but the tutorial is down to someone else. This was the last kit I acquired and it has far more tools in it than most and can only assume that it was just filled with any tools from other kits that was laying around.

In the center of the third pictue down, there are two round tools that have cross-hatched engraving on the "handle" end and a small, screw end on the other. I have seen those alone sell for a lot of $$: the small end screws into the side of the rear sight and is used for its removal.

Tools and used

Post by bergflak »

All correct Ed (should be one in the kit). There are several duplicates of some of the tools (collected from several boxes). Most of the tools are "handelsüblich" or standard tools from the era, like hammer/pliers/punches/chisels/files/sharpening stone/wrench/vise.
-Blue circle is a extractor-removal tool for the MG34.
-Green circles is tap-wrenches. The smallest one will fit the buffer mounting screws, and the 10mm opening in the other end was used for most of the nuts on the lafette. I am unsure what the two larger tap wrenches were for.
-Red circle is a MG34 saddle drum adjusting key
-Pink circle is a caliber zylinder gauge in a wooden container
-Black circle are screwdrivers (to be used with handle in kit)
Also pictured is a stuck case remover and 3 pig tails for extracting objects.

Thanks,Berg.I have seen the pig-tail,or cork-screw,tools used for black powder guns,to remove stuck bullets or wadding when the powder has gotten wet. They screw onto the end of the ramrod.I would imagine they were used for a similar purpose here. ---bil
