MG34 Cover
When the cover is removed from the gun, the soldier can attach the cover to his equipment so he does not lose it.

Re: MG 34 canvas cover
Did you mean why is the stitching double? and are you asking for old pictures of this item in use? I may have a pic,I will look. ---bil

Re: MG 34 canvas cover
Ryan-in the first pic,it looks like there was a hole for the cockink handle.Do you know if this is so? Thanks for the pics,I couldn't locate mine.It was on the back mount of a SDKFZ 251.[the cover, not the picture] I enjoy your posts, you always come through with the info or pictures. ---bil

Re: MG 34 canvas cover
There is a hole in the cover for the cocking handle, as well as reinforcements for the feedtray drum magazine "ears".
The color picture in the first post was taken from my website. Here is the link to the page which has more photos of the cover.

Re: MG 34 canvas cover
Why is there blue line running across those photos? It ruins them.
Re: MG 34 canvas cover
How does that answer my question? You mean people are so stingy nowadays that they won't even share original German pictures without ruining them?
Re: MG 34 canvas cover
So much for the enjoyment of history.
Re: MG 34 canvas cover
I wondered about the line also, and came to the same confusion. There are a lot of collections that do this. However,if you follow his link and go to his site, then dig into it,you will find many pictures and lots of information, all interesting and usefull.I also clicked on a picture and downloaded it,it had no line.[For this test,I used a picture I really didn't want, some guy eating something. Not a good combat pic] Hopefully ,the line won't appear later. So I am not sure about this particular line, but Ryan is willing to post on his site pictures for us all to enjoy. There is also the standard notice about not using his stuff for profit or posting elsewhere. That makes sense.I hope this clears this up before someone gets offended. That happens too much here.

Re: MG 34 canvas cover
Never mind.I just dug even deeper into his site,it really is good, with some good videos.HOWEVER. In the photo archives, there are lots and lots of pictures, every one with a RED line across. It spoils the picture,is distracting, and obscures some detail.I am sure Ryan paid a lot of money for these and doesn't want to have anyone helpingf themselves to them.Pictures in the public domain are public,I assume these aren't.I would rather see him use a way they couldn't be downloaded rather than marr them like this.Mixed opinions here.Let the controversy continue. ---bil

Re: MG 34 canvas cover
The photos are expensive. The line only appears on original, unpublished photos that I own and plan to use in a book about the IF.5 MG Wagen some day. I do not want them downloaded, reprinted and sold as original, very easy to do, just look at ebay.de sometime.
Only the photos in my archive page are "ruined". If I use the originals elsewhere on my website I leave the line out, because yes, it is irritating and looks terrible. I suppose if I had a better photo editing program I would add a transparent copyright and if I had the extra money for a real website, I would add the anti-download feature, but for now it is a simple, made in my spare time website for others to enjoy the hobby that I enjoy less because of others.
I apologize for ruining your enjoyment of my effort to share the info YOU requested.
