MG34 AA tripod
MG34 AA tripod
Are original MG 34 AA tripods available? Whats the going rate? I see lots of post war '42 mounts and tripods and lots of folks with modified '42 mounts to hold a '34 but I'd rather have the original set-up.

Re: MG34 AA tripod
railsplitter,
Original MG-34 AA-Tripods are only available as "original" collector items.
With that said, you can modify a Post-War German MG-42 AA Mount to resemble the original MG-34 Mount with a little work.
There are some earlier "Threads" about this subject here on our Board.
Just be careful not to get one of the IO MG-34 AA-Head (or one made by several makers here and on E-Bay) as they are not machined correctly and the gun sits too high on the head-unit for the AA-Tripod.
Correct "reproductions" can be had from "Blitz-Bike"-(?).....and I have attached a photo of a "correctly-made" mounting-point so you don't buy into a reproduction.....the second photo is of an MG-42 and MG-34 AA Mounting-Heads side-by-side for view.

Re: MG34 AA tripod
Are the cradle arms wider on the 34 than the 42, as it appears? One cannot switch a 42 cradle for a 34 cradle and get the gun attachment to fit.

Re: MG34 AA tripod
The brackets for the MG34 and MG42 can be switched and re-mounted on the opposite "AA-Head"......if just appears different because one bracket sits farther away from the camera in the photo.

Re: MG34 AA tripod
Very nice-thank you! We don't get to see many actual German ones here. ---bil

Re: MG34 AA tripod
Just got my MG34 AA bracket in from Blitzbikes
Thanks Mike
I see the post war tripod has a larger outside diameter post than the original
Whats the typical fix?

Re: MG34 AA tripod
railsplitter,
The fix is to take the top-pole out of the Post-War Tripod.....and chuck-it-up on a lathe for re-cutting to correct diameter w/catch-ring........or, take it over to a machine-shop and have them cut the corrrect diameter (and profile for catch-ring) onto the outside-top of the center-pole.
Do you have a lathe....or access to a machine-shop (?).

Re: MG34 AA tripod
My machinest loves my MG 42 build
- some times its cheaper to buy parts than machine them - some times there's no option. Great guys to work with
