MG34 blank firing adaptor

Post by Robert »

Hi guys,
I have some problem with my mg34 so I hope, that you can help me.
I was try to use classic adaptor with 4mm hole, but weapon don´t reloading good.
In fire mode the bolt loading two cartridges(one used shell, one from belt)-that meaning that the bolt don´t going up to bottom.
The question is, what calibre of adaptor hole you using?

Hi Robert,
I have to ask a few questions to be able to help you sort the problem out:

1: What "caliber" are you trying (?) 8x57mm or 7.62x51mmNATO/.308 (?).

2: Who made the Blanks you are trying (?)....or what are the markings on the bottom of the case-head (?).

The restricted "Booster-Cup"/"Nozzle" is not the best way to Blank-Adapt the MG34......the best-way is with the 2-pcs. "Blank-Barrel-Assembly" The restriction is inside the muzzle of the barrel and does not use a "Booster-Cup"/"Nozzle".
Because you have less weight of the barrel to move to the rear towards the Butt-Stock.....it allows you to to adjust to many different Blanks using less pressure. Using less pressure means that the MG34 will run more reliable and be "LOUDER" with faster-RPM .

I have attached a photo of what the different MG34 Blank-Adapting "System" parts are so that you can see what I am talking about.

Let me know a little more information, maybe some photos of the Blanks, and your feed-tray, and I should be able to help you sort all of this out.

Thanks for speedy answer.
I´m using 8x57 cartridges from czech company Hermex it´s maked from live ammunitions of Czech Army old reserves.
My feed tray haven´t any modifieds.
I see, that the best way is 2 pcs blank barrel, but it´s very rare and I have never seen it in Czech Rep.
I have 2 barrels so I try to made 2pcs barrel from it, but I need accurate extensions of original barrel, please.
Regs.

Robert,
I have attached a photo of some of the different Blanks that are available for use in either the MG34 or the MG42.

Some "blanks", such as the older "wood-tipped" blanks are not very available and more of "collector-items" now.

I have put two 8x57mm FMJ/"Live-Cartridges" as the top-row so you can see the different lengths. Then the 8x57mm Blanks in the second-row........and the 7.62x51mmNATO/.308 Blanks in the bottom-row.

The "Surplus-Blanks" in 7.62x51mmNATO/.308 may be available if you have them ordered from any surplus dealer near you....most will probably be British or Austrian .308 Blanks (which are not as loud).

What it looks like "Hermex" is selling you are brass-cases from "live 8x57mm-ammo"....they pull the bullets, and load these by crimping the case-mouth closed. This is a very short Blank....and I believe that you will have feeding problems with them. They may have even used the old gun-powder which burns too slow for Blanks. Open one up.....and post a photo of the powder for me to see it's size grains.

I will work on making up some drawings of the 2-pcs. Blank-Barrel "Rear-Section" so that you can have these made in your area.......remember, I will be posting US-Standard-Threads for the set-plugs.....you will need to convert these over to a "Standard-type of Metric-Thread Set-Plug" at your location to purchase the correct "Metric" Hex-Wrench Set-Plugs.

Thanks a lot,
of course I was try doing blanks from live ammo and I was insert lot of cotton wool inside for higher pressure and it´s working with "short" cartridges too, but not reloading so good.
My friends doing blanks from .308 or 7x64 cartridges, but it´s expensive for reenacting too much.
Thanks for support guys :D

Robert,
Photo of my drawing is posted below.

Remember that each of these 2-pcs. Blank-Barrel-Assemblies was made by the local German-Army from old/shot-out MG34 Barrels.....so each will be a little different as far as diameters and lengths.

Next, allow about .005" - .010" clearance between the rear-section "piston" and the hole bored into the rear of the forward barrel-section. This allows for expansion during firing (heat), and the grooves allow a place for the "carbon" to gather.

****NOTE:
Do not allow the flared-sections at the rear the rear of the MG34 Blank-Barrel-Assembly to be thicker than a live barrel (front-to-rear) or you will not be able to rotate your barrel-jacket to the closed position because the barrel will be too long............try to make it slightly less in thickness from front-to-rear.

Try to get two (2) used MG34 Barrel-Assemblies so that you can make one-front-section....and two (2) rear-sections. One in 8x57mm and the second in 7.62x51mmNATO/.308 from the second barrel-extension.

If you have other question......please ask.

Last.....please look around/ask around your area as I am in need of a "collimator" (Photo-below) for the top of the MGZ-40 Optic as used on the MG-42 when mounted on the Lafette-Tripod. You can e-mail me directly at:
