I see Pirate points out using metric FCG parts but at the pin spacing called out in his drawing, 1.037 if memory serves, my metric sear and hammer will not make contact. The proper spacing is aprox .738 as none123 pointed out. Is there possibly another dimension fcg that will work with the wider spacing detailed in Pirates build? Other than life and kids etc, the fcg issue is the only thing thats been holding this project up. I really want to get this housing in gear, especialy since BRP has released these beautiful rec. Cheers
Would it be possible to manufacture a US made buttstock. It can't be that diifficult. I'm tempted to take some measurements and make a new one myself. Since I work in a cabinet shop that won't be difficult. How about a stock made from birdseye maple? We have some nice figured walnut over in the warehouse too. Or maybe some palo alto, or Brazilian rosewood, or purple heart, or bubinga, or mahogany. I'm going to build this FIREARM even if I have to carve a gripstick out of an old rusty bathtub. And make the FCG by hand from old Winchester parts.
And BTW, how can they call the charging handle an operating rod? Yeah right, like I don't know the answer. What happened to us?

Guys -
Hold off for a few days on making any decisions to make (or buy) new grip panels, gripstick housings or other parts.
There is a load of behind the scene work going on at the moment regarding this issue.

I think it is important to find the regulations concerning using foreign materials in making us mfgd parts. If this can be resolved the receiver, bolt carrier and grip stick become US parts. Basically at this point the only difference between a BRP and reweld is the fcg and receiver. using US fal parts will cover the fcg.

go ahead and make the wood grip panels, I'd buy them whether or not they are required for compliance . same with new buttstocks - their is a market for nice new ones.

I can find Pirates drawings but cant seem to find the ones from 762x51...I swear I saw them here beforepanaceabeachbum wrote:Hey Orin, I have everything ready and done for the fal gripsticks, have for a couple of months, but I cant figure out which FAL fcg you and pirate are refering to in your drawings as none I can find will work with the wide pin spacing posted in your drawings. That is the only issue delaying the release of the one I have been working on.762x51 wrote:Guys -

Looks like I 'll be taking some measurements. If only to satisfy myself that it can be done. I'll have to buy a junk buttstock to deconstruct. My Angola buttstock wil remain inviolate. This may prove to be an extremely interesting project. But I will have to make sure that the wood is a native American species. Wouldn't want to piss off the Feds by using any imported Canadian maple or other nasty foreign wood, now wood I.
When you come to think of it the whole 992r reg is nothing more than an immense pile of BS. What other product that we buy must have a certain number of US parts in it to be legal? Is your computer compliant? How about your car? Your TV. VCR. Your shoes or clothing. Hell I must be in non-compliance. My wife was made in Russia. Only at certain times are there US parts in her.
But anyway, you get my meaning. It's just the hoops the Feds make us jump through to enjoy our sport.

I have them but they depict the same wide pin spacing for the fal FCG I cant seem to find. It must exist as Pirate has a working housing.

I will work up a grip housing by the time the weekend is over to work around the metric FCG, I have all the jigs done and over 100 blanks profiled, rounded and done to the point of just needing the pin holes and pocket machined, about 15min work each till completion, as mentioned earlier just been in search of the suitable FAL FCG for the past couple of months. If a wide spacing version exist as posted in the drawings could someone please post a source? At worst i can machine new sear/disconnect for proper hammer placement but would rather use turnkey parts if available.

Thats good to hear, I thought there was some strange FAL fcg I wasnt familiar with. I have redrawn some of my original drawings and think the metric fcg will work just fine if I stop worrying so much about the geometry and let the fal hammer strike the firing pin at a little different angle, Just worried about not striking the firing pin perfectly sqaure with so much firing pin sticking out unsupported and causing a runaway. Will update with pics shortly.

I have one of the stocks made by Mike at mgstocks.com. His website appears to be down at the moment. Mike made the stock from walnut and it is PERFECT, even with a waffenamt on the left side. It is used on my C&R MG-42 to allow the original stock to not suffer the dings and abuse from handling and wear at the range. It's nice to have a stock that the top rear edges are not all smashed to crap from dropping butt on the ground. The price for that stock was $250.00, which is not cheap, but the MG-42 looks 100% restored to new condition now.
