CRACKING BRP RECIEVERS READ THIS

Post by TOM R »

ok today while looking at my reciever I noticed a 1-2" crack in the reciever, my gun has 20 rounds through it in 8mm, we tigged the crack and ground it back down , guess I will see how long it lasts, i am not the only 1 with this problem , redjacketfirearms has had this problem on his full auto brp reciever, I will post pics later so you know what to look for as ours both cracked in the same place, just want you all to be aware of this so you can watch your guns also :?

TomR,
They have had that problem in the past......and a few posts about these cracking receivers was made many weeks/months ago...I can't recall if they were on this board....or over on the NFA Discussion Boards on other web-pages........such as the subgun.com board (?). ...and was why I asked about their new "B" series receiver differences/changes.

We thought that the problem may be due to the type welding......but without knowing for sure how they are doing their welding I could not tell you. I do recall that the problem area was at the junction of the four-pieces at the "cam-area" in the center......maybe due to welding?...or twisting-action also during firing?....or ???

With you bringing this up here....where BRP stands to lose many customers......maybe Brian will address the Board?....or at least have someone pass some information on to us "officially"?

Let us know what you find out in your search.
Regards, RichardS.

Hey Tom, couldn't your receiver crack be due to your out of battery explosion? Might just be a coincidensce that another has a crack too.
It's better to be silent and considered a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

I might be dreaming this but didn't I read somewhere that Brian suggested some welding to reinforce the reciever in some area do deal with firing? Maybe I am dreaming but....Ahhhhh, just went back and found it on the Weaponeer Group Buy Forum.... Brian's comments about these recievers... You may want to beef up the "buffer Tabs and inner "U" brackets with welds to endure the beating during fire". From your photos I cannot tell where this is happening. Hope this helps.

Hey Tom, I'm willing to bet your camera has a macro feature that will let you take really clear closeups. Just and FYI to help a brother out.

After a closer look it appears that is the back end of the reciever.

that is the right lower section of the recieverunder the rachet plate, i have welded and riveted in the lower buffer cam like original , i will need to weld the upper buffer cam as the rivets are already working loose, I will post a pic tonight of the cracked area from the outside so you can see wxactly where the crack forms

Just a tone of criticism :-P ...maybe if they were built like the "original" out of one (1) piece instead of four (4) sections this wouldn’t be happening!

If I had the money, time and 07/SOT to build a FA from the BRP receiver vs. a 60 year old re-weld and run a balls to the wall style torture test who would put their money on the BRP receiver turning into shrapnel first, sounds like as sure bet to me. :rolling:

here are more pics, like i said when I looked at it with the cockin handle in i think the problem is the cocking slot is machined too deep causeing the area to be thin and fail

I think this is what I wanted to see in an earlier post I made about asking if more work was required for one of these reciever. Thanks, Mike

Yowza! Is there any other source for receivers?

Well, for what it's worth, I have an original receiver section from a WWII gun, cracked it the same place. A design flaw, not a BRP flaw.

Mike, can you please be a little more specific when you say buffer tabs and U brackets. I have one of these to build and know VERY little about it at this point. Pictures would be greatly appreciated. P.S. this is my first official post here, been lurking a while and appreciate all the info here, but do most of my posting over on 1919.
