I would like your opinion on this gurtrommel holder and the gurttrummels! 1 gurttrommel seems to almost never used, while others are clearly more used! The color looks dark (grey) green field , i thinking ral 6009!
I think postwar paintwork ''i think'' , how can I best remove the paintwork?
Sorry for the bad pictures, it was to sunny here!
Here a link that i found on internet with the coller looks mine gurttrummel! http://www.schwimmwagen.co.uk/page-equipment.html
My question is this original color pre WWIIor is it post-war? What was the original color, these drums were again provided by soldiers from a paint or a layer tarn?
Always hard to judge colour on PC screens as everybody's shows things a little different, but I would say it is original paint, either RAL6006 which has darkened with age, or it is a special colour used for the Portuguese contract. I have a barrel carrier which was part of a boxed up MG34 set and it appears same colour as your stuff, slightly more olive than RAL6006?
Personally I'd leave it as is rather than repaint.... its worth more as it is.
Very nice drum set, Pieter. Congratulations! I have read that inside each drum was originally a hand painted directional arrow, to show how to fit in the belt. If that arrow is no longer visible, the drum has been refinished by someone, or maybe used until it wore off.
I have seen a drum advertised for sale that still had the hand-painted arrow....Phil
The directional arrow isn't necessarily painted, as it is faintly impressed in the metal inside the base quite often - I guess not all manufacturers (and there were many) did it. I've got both the impressed type and others that had a curved arrow painted in red.
